GP Mustang P51-D with OS .61FX ? ...
 

Hi guys,


Anyone knows if putting an OS .61FX with tuned pipe on a GP Mustang P51-D kit would be TOO MUCH ?, or ... too much work on reinforcements ?

Too much? I think it sounds pretty good- I have the Global P-47 with a 61FX (has not flown yet-) and balance seemed to be the only issue-

CG and prop clearance are all I am concerned about-

As for rein.- Glass the center section of the wing for starters (just the section covered by the fuse-) and use decent servos or at least 6V instead of 4.8V for additional torque!

P.S. Have to add- if true speed is what you are looking for a Jett-50 or YS-45 will be quicker and lighter- for stump pullin' power you are on the right track-

I run a os 65 df engine in my ez dago red which is about the same... 200 mph some days

I really dont think a 65 df engine will pull a p-51 200mph. Have you put a radar to it?

I don't know if your talking about the top flight P-51 or the great planes P-51 that is designed for .45. I built the GP mustang and used an old Fox .46 BB and it flew pretty nice. Retracts had something to do with that also. However it flew nicely, it did not have the P-51 moves. I bought a Magnum .61 and crow barred it in the nose. It was the best decision I ever made. It looked better in the air with the 12" prop (scale like prop disc), plus it flew like it had a scaled down Merlin. I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction, about the speed, it wasn't much faster (you can max out on speed because of drag) but it would climb and turn just like the real thing! It even sounded better in the air. Again, I think it was the larger prop. Do it, you won't be disappointed!
