I was thinking of squeezing a Leo .61 into an old GP Ultra Sport 40, removing the muffler baffle, drilling out the outlet stinger and having a go at breaking 100 mph --- will it do it?

I think you would be close, not sure if it will actually top 100, but you should be able to get into the 90+ range with the right prop.

I dunno how fast that set-up will go but that is not a speed plane... I would hate to see it come apart on ya'[X(]

How about a quickee (Viper, Sonic, etc.) or a Delta (DD, or Whip)?

Well (yeah you, Mr El Mirage wannabe ;) ), I had the Ultra Sport, and I stuck a Magnum 75 ABC up front. The plane is capable of handling the speed (I'd say 'bout 105-110 mph), however, it's them cheap plastic cowls that don't like to go fast. Glass'em and you should be fine. The Ultra Sport's are awesome flying, and go where you point them with the right motor.

I'm not familiar with the Leo's, have you run this before? If so, what kind of numbers were you getting?

Thanks for the replies. The LEO is an OS FX clone -- and a good one. I have replaced the original cowling (it blew off) with a clean, solid built-up unit.

What would be a good prop & how much nitro would be advisable (think OS .61 FX)?

I always found the 61's liked turning some R's with the MAS 11x7.5 (that's what I used on my 75).

From there, you could experiment with different ptich/size MAS's & APC's.

BTW -- is there any point in using more than 15% nitro in a stock sport engine?

15% fuel is fine, that's all I ever use...even in the "no nitro OR 5% nitro only" motors that come from over the pond. (Moki was the ONLY exception)
