Speed Planes... Prefered Price Range..Type

What's a reasonable price range for a new speed plane? Be realistic, not free or really cheap, since we all know that speed is neither free or cheap.
What would you like to see in a new speed plane for .40 sized motors? I'm designing a new speed plane for .40 sized motors, and a second airframe for .60-.90 sized motors. I would appreciate any viable inputs. Feel free to voice any reasonable opinion, ie: kit, fully molded, ARF., conventional airframe, delta or whatever. Be serious here, I am.[8D]

What I would really like to see is that somebody comes out with a complete package designed around an OS 90 VRDF engine:
-fully molded plane
-designed specifically for all out speed
-completely hidden linkages and power plant (proper cooling and pipe ducts)
-rtr power plant (matched but adjustable pipe... you know the drill)
-custom molded CF props, matched to the airframe and engine
-possibly a small selection of available props (for field elevation and weather differences)
-dolly for take off

I wouldn't care if it cost 1500$ (less engine)... and 30-40$ for a prop... I'd get one!

Will do it myself "one day"... I just hope I get there before OS stops producing DF engines :D

Hey Rude,

maybe I'll release a kit in future (I am no R/C model business man). But it won't come with a dolly.

My intention is to wait until several different people show up with their individual speed plane designs. It would be much more interesting to arrange a speed competition with diversified plane/prop designs, wouldn't it? I personally wouldn't hesitate to visit the US with my speed planes in the luggage...:D

Again, here's what I suggest to get serious speed based mainly on own experience:

You want something that looks fast, or IS fast?

If money's no object, get a Nelson F3D motor and a F3D airplane. The motor will set you back $500, but it will run on cheap 0% nitro fuel. The plane, no idea.

Or one of those turbine thingies (there's a 200 mph speed limit now, though, if you want AMA insurance).

Just make sure you're a good enough pilot, or you might end up killing someone.

Overheard at the restaurant where we usually go to eat after flying:

"I think I will get a speed plane and scare everyone."

"Please don't."

I'd like to pick up the last question:

You want something that looks fast, or IS fast?

Come on, tell us your real feelings :)

No kidding:

What are you speed addicts willing to pay for a speed plane with engine?
How should it look like? - Your personal favorite design?
Which target speed do you want to experience?

Just think about all the possibly suboptimal solutions you recognized in the past when building and flying your DD, Whiplash, Magnum, and all the other countless ;) speed plane kits out there...

Looking forward to your replies!

My ideal ship would be in the 55 inch span for a 77-90 vrdf type engine. The fuse should be e-glass with plywood crutch and trays setup to strengthen the airframe. The wing should be all composite with control surfaces attached. Engine should be fully cowled in the sidewinder position so one can use a full wave pipe. I think 500-600 would be acceptable for the aircraft

I get my kicks flying CL Combat planes. 120 mph is all you really want to be doing if you're attached to the airplane by 60 feet of wire. Even that's boring, until you add a second plane and pilot into the circle... and then suddenly, every other kind of flying seems mundane.. :)
