Where to start??

I would like to get into speed, but don't know where to start. I would like to get a set up to cut foam, any help would be great.
Thanks, B

Here you can find some nice info on a [link=http://webpages.charter.net/rcfu/ConstGuide/FoamWing.html]foam cutting bow[/link]
This is not gospel however... set you imagination at work!

A 30V regulated power supply may look expensive... but it comes in very handy for a variety of things.

You can make a cutting wire out of stainless mig welding wire. Cheap and effective.

Lionel A.C. Train Transformer. I use a KW but that is probably overkill.

So, If I get a transformer for a train track, I can use welding wire to cut foam?

You got it! There are a variety of ways to set up cutters too. I have a large bow like RB is talking about but also a small one with about a 6"gap for small parts. I also made one that uses a plastic block with the wire hanging down with a weight for cutting FFF. You can also use picture frame hanging wire.

just wondering what you are planning to create --- you noted you were starting out with speed stuff. Any ideas of where you will begin? There are a few good kits and plans available... might save you the work of cutting wings and such.

I want the fastest plane at our field. Right now it is a 40 size P-51 running a .46 thunder tiger. I have visions of a clip wing Perfection-type plane. I thought about buying a Q-500 type plane, but I enjoy building.

If you want a kit. You can go with the Lanier Dominator 500.

With a sport .40-.46 sized engine it will be faster than the Mustang.
