prop for patriotxl
hello all speed demons,
I'm building a patriotxl with a ST 90 and was wondering if any one had any thoughts on a prop for it. I have some 12/10 zingers. Would these work, or should I try something else? Thanks in advance. speedy |
RE: prop for patriotxl
Hows the clearance on it. You may want to go down around a 12/7 to start with. The thing here is leave it on for several flights so you can get the feel of it. Then when you decide to change props, you will see an immediate difference which could be better or worse. I use Jett for my speed planes but I do have a couple G90s in other planes like the Shoestring. Very reliable and good engines and very powerful in the right plane on a torque basis but would not be my choice in a propjet.
I would chuck the zingers and go wiht APC, every little bit will help. |

If I went with a JETT, which one should I use?

.90L with a 12/7 apc. I am not trying to insult your wallet by any means but if your going to build a propjet from a kit. Thats a lot of work. Right now I am building my fourth propjet which is Russian Flanker. This kit is a real pain in the butt and I am not going to go through all this without installing the best there is to pull it around.
Don't be intimidated by the Jett either. It is just as easy to tune up as any of them. No surprises. Compression is so tight that it feels broken but it's not. And the sound of the engine, especially the 90L stand alone. Also consider retracts or your basically cancelling out everything were talking about . Too much drag with stamdard struts. |
RE: prop for patriotxl
I have spring air retracts on it and I'm going
to leave the intakes off. I'm also considering lowering the rear deck about 3/4" to decrease some of the drag. I had the ST 90 from another plane, so I figuered I would try it. But if a JETT is the best way to go on this plane then I'll go that route. Should I go with the Signature Series BSE or the Sport Jett Engine? |

Speedy,
Either the SJ-90L or the BSE-90L will work well. Both have nearly identical performance. Its more a preference of appearance and wow factor. However the BSE do sometimes come up 200-300 rpm more than the cast case. A few folks have told me they were running 11x9 props on the SJ-90 and patriot with very good results. Two were located at relatively low atltitudes (NC and LA). One gentleman in South Dakota run a 10x11 prop. Attached is an image of one XL without the inlets, SJ-90L up front. Looks nice. |
