Have been running a 53 for a couple years, most reliable, and powerful, 2 cycle in that range I have ever used....building a 46 size plane now, and would like another... need some info on where to purchase one....As I recall Sig marketed them, but at ridiculous prices... where can a 53 be purchased at a competetive price??

shipping. You can use the calculator on the web site to figure
the exchange rate. I used the online order form and a credit
card.

This is the first Ervine engine I have owned, I bought it fro a
Sig Somthin Extra kit. It is an awsome engine, I was running
a 11.5x4 prop on it today (not a speed prop) and it was awsome.
I forgot to tach it, but it would yank that extra vertical out of site
very fast.

Advent:: thank you for the information....I take it you are saying the vendor is off shore...I will follow up on it..... My 53 is mounted in a GP 40 Mustang W/retracts.... with an APC 10-8 it really hauls, and in two flying seasons, and countless flights, not one deadstick, and the idle is still at the factory setting...

I've got one of those engines, and they are really cracking engines. They do not like loads of revs, or at least mine doesn't. It likes to swing a large prop.

I've used Just Engines and they are the best Airplane engine people I've ever dealt with, very helpful

FI:: Thank you for your comments... the 53 does thrive under a load... the 10 prop with an 8 pitch seems a good balance for performance and speed....

My engine doesn't like to rev that much, I would try different props until you get to about 12,000. In my case this is a 11 by 4 I think, I'm at Sea Level. That was on a Fun Fly and was right for that plane, I've just moved the engine onto a Me109, and will play around with the props until I find the correct size for the plane.

It's a really great engine, Very very strong and will pull the plane well. If I was you I would put a bigger prop on your plane and see the difference and settle on the prop which works the best for you.

If you do speak to Just Engines, ask them about the Purple Pipe which will add a few more revs to your engine.

Also, the Tower muffler (fits 46FX and Tower-46) also fits the Irvine-53 and gets you some $15- RPM's :) and runs as beautifully as on the stock muffler though a tad louder...

The low-end always seemed rich from factory on mine (2)...

Happy New Year All
I have been running an Irvine 53 in a GP Patriot ARTF for some time and it is a very much underated engine. The 53 seems to go exceptionally well. The other red motors are OK but for some reason the 53 seems to have exceeded everyones expectations - maybe one of the best kept secrets, but not for much longer! There is a limited edition black cased 53 also available. As someone else has noticed these can be ordered from the Just Engines web site.

Does the Limited edition have the good carb.?

I flew a Patriot arf on an Irvine-53 a couple years ago- went well...

As far as I know the carb. on the limited edition is the same as on the red version. Costs £10 extra over here so that might be around $20 for you. Checked last night and I have been running mine on a 10x8; seems to like the extra pitch. The Patriot is starting to look a bit worse for ware - been flying it for the last 7 years: will have to retire it and build the XL.
