Engine mount question--- ?
1 Attachment(s)
Well, this is a pattern style question but this speed forum is my home so...
I was VERY fortunate to get ahold of a Supra Fly-45 ARF from Mech Gadget, and it has a funky aluminum engine mount/plate- To be honest I have no idea how to mount my engine on here  Check it out: |
RE: Engine mount question--- ?
Nice looking homemade mount. Get some longer backplate screws and washers.
You putting a YS 60 on that thing? Pete |
RE: Engine mount question--- ?
Any chance of removing it all and installing a new mount . Could use the cowl for centering.

petec- The YS-60 is the plan... ;) Can you believe someone loaned me one sight-unseen? :D
I guess I could fabricate a new mount.... gosh I suck at stuff like that--- |

Razor,
Not so fast. Unless you really are into machining and pretty decent with millwork, you don't have to go that far out to make this work. The YS 45 that I had mounted on this thing at one time fit nicley. All you have to do do is replace the engine backplate studs with ones a 1/4" longer than the standard ones. Simply remove the original backplate studs, allign the engine as desired (cowling cut for ~205 degrees CCW from the horizontal) and bolt from the backside of the engine mount through the backplate of the engine and then tighten. Make sure to use treadlocking compound or you will have studs back out. I am really glad that it survived the journey. Enjoy! If you have any questions give me a call or pm me. Thanks. Creighton |
RE: Engine mount question--- ?
Use the plate mount. As noted, you simply need new backplate screws. :)
If I recall, the outter bolts were semi-adjustable to, for thrust alignment. Its the ultimate in universal engine mount. And the Supra was a heck of a good aircraft too. Enjoy ! |
RE: Engine mount question--- ?
Your YS-45 fit the pattern of thos eouter mounting bolts?
|
RE: Engine mount question--- ?
no.... engine mounts to the inside pattern. I was able to use the outter bolts that holed the plate on to adjust the thrust angle (washers/shims).

Man I am slow sometimes.... that star is 2 "X" patterns :D Thanks everybody--- Especially CH for constructing what appears to be a bullet-proof shipping box! Lets hope the airplane is stout also [X(] Imjustlearnin2fly |
RE: Engine mount question--- ?
I happen to have a radial mount for a YS 60.....I think I might have loaned the engine to someone. I also have a homebrewed isolation mount for the same engine if you want to borrow them.
