Jett Sport 46 on Whiplash

Well, I ordered a Whiplash and should have it in a few days. I've been planning on putting a Jett Fire 50 on it. I HAVE a Jett Sport 46 that I've got no home for. Anyone flown the Whiplash with a Jett 46? Obviously the 50 will produce more power to swing the prop for max speed, but maybe the 46 would be a good tune up for the high speeds. My fastest plane is a 15 size Shrike clocked at 109.

What do you guys think?

I would like to eventually step up to the Jett Fire 50 and it appears from the Jett website that the Sport Jett 46 has a wider spacing on the engine mounting holes than the Fire 50. That would add a wrinkle that I'd rather not deal with when it comes time to upgrade. Maybe I should go with the 50 straight away?

Help me spend my money!! Haha!

Well figure it this way, if we can average almost 150 MPH with an OS46FX, you will certainly do as well with the Jett, and that aint nothin to shake a stick at...

I think the 46 would e a great engine for the whiplash

If the weight is there...

I have the problem that my OS 46 VRDF won't balance the Whiplash....but I think that engine might be better suited to a Dust, given the prop diameter recommendations seen for the Whiplash. Maybe the Jetts are heavier.

Jett engine mount holes

My Sport Jett 46 and 50 had the same mounting pattern and I am almost certain the FIRE 50 is also the same. You might e-mail Jett to be certain.

My info came off of their site. They have technical drawings for all their motors that include all vital measurements. The SJ46, and FIRE50 have different measurenents for mounting holes.
Look here: http://www.jettengineering.com/tech/dimensions.html

The SJ 46 has a spacing of 0.689" and the FIRE50 has a spacing of 0.590"

A tenth of an inch is a far cry from the same measurement.

You are correct though that the SJ40 and SJ50 have the same pattern. Wonder why they changed it for the FIRE50? And smaller instead of wider spacing.
