So much for building my own. Wonder how much trouble it will be to hack in retracts and rudder? MIne is on order. Hope they get them soon.

I jusst talked with my son that works for Hbbbico, says the ARF will not be in until mid November.

Ok, they need some time for figuring out the final paint scheme :).

RE: ARF .40 Shrike has arrived !!!

I am actually thinking about just ordering the kit since I am going to put retracts on it. Might be easier to engineer in from the start rather than try to build them in later, and besides, I have never had an ARF. Why start now? And I know the color scheme I would want.

They don't get much better looking then this Shrike with a RE 60 in it. It is not my plane.

That is a beautiful airplane. I think I will keep that pic for reference. Ordered a 40 size kit and hobbico mech retracts today. Now just have to wait for my stuff to get here from Cairo, Egypt. The 46 AX is in that shipment.

That's a beautiful Shrike for sure. I'm kind of partial to this one tho. Doubt you'll see a color scheme like this from the factory. It will be getting a Jett 50 F.I.R.E. BSE when I pick it up from Jeremy Ferguson at Superman.

That looks like way to much work to allow it to fly. I wish I had the ambition to put something like that together, but I am just an old hacker who can make monokote look half decent. Take care of it, it is a jewel.

I kind of like it, or maybe its just the $124.99 price tag that looks good.... I'm sure its wishful thinking but it would be nice if mechanical retracts could just drop in.

That may be the home this engine has been waiting for !! :D

Flyboy Dave, where did you get that engine, what are the specs and how much??

RE: ARF .40 Shrike has arrived !!!

I think the trim scheme looks pretty good. And it's far better than the average modeler can do himself. :)

RE: ARF .40 Shrike has arrived !!!

I got it from Modeler Direct....had them on close out when K&B went to Havasu
several years ago. It was the last run of the K&B Q-500 engines. I didn't know
it at the time....but there would be no more. It was $78.00 plus $35.00 for the
pipe. Like a dummy I only bought one. [sm=stupid.gif]

I don't know what the specs are, but I would assume it will turn 22-24K os so.
It was a competitive engine in it's day, but was eclipsed by the Nelsons and
Jetts. K&B really hasn't done a thing for about 10 years.

They had the .61 ringed #6550 with the new carb and new pipe for $65.00, I
snagged three of them.

Dave.

Is the nose gear steer-able ?
Tower says "fixed main and nose gear".

Flyboy Dave 03-07-2006 11:50 PM

RE: ARF .40 Shrike has arrived !!!

It most likely is....fixed usually means non-retractable. ;)

FBD. :D

That is flat beautiful work work. Looks like air brush artistry! God gave me a ton of structural and design ability and flat 0 in the artistic area. I envy anyone with this tipe of ability. How was it done, and over what?

So, not bad looking. What are the opinions of how this thing will hold together with a jett .50 ? How about belly landing?

Thanks, but I can't take credit for this one. I'm in the same boat with you on the artistic talent. Bought this one used from Jeremy. He offered me a great (!) deal and I jumped on it before he could change his mind. It is airbrushed over Solartex. I'll be sure and get him to give you the details.

Thanks, but spare Jeremy the time. Would be like giving a Jett 90 to a Free Flight guy!

That shrike was covered with Solartex natural fabric, sprayed with Createx auto air airbrush paints and clear coated with RM automotive clear. I don't like the Createx, but I had lots of it at the time and it flex's very well which on the fabric was something I wanted to be sure of.
