DD motor suggestions
 

I have a DD with an OS 46FX with a 10x6 prop. I was please with speed and veritical. The motor seized the piston and broke the push rod. Since the 46 FX is no longer available what do you DD experts suggest? IF I would replace it with a OS46 AS , will my tuned pipe from FX still work? thanks

I'm flying mine with a TT Pro 46. With pipe, it's turning around 18,000 with a 9-6 APC. I think your OS header and pipe will fit the Thunder Tiger.

get and MB 40 PROFI. will turn 30000+ easy and more than 200 MPH. only problem is they area a little expensive

The complete lack of a throttle on that engine might pose a problem for mere mortals, but not for a true speed freak, right ? :D

with that motor you can get over 220 miles easy if you keep the weight under 4 pounds

There's a few engines that will give you those speeds in that airframe, like the Nelson Q40, Nelson FAI, JETT Q40 etc etc etc, but.........

It's a Diamond dust!!!!!! Putting a $375+ dollar racing engine in there would be like putting a Ferrari engine into a Mustang!!!!! Why put a high performance engine in a crapass frame like that (no offense to those silly mustang owners ;) )

If you're gonna spend the $$$ on one of those engines, put it in an aerodynamically clean airframe like a Q40 and go faster than the dust will go and not have to worry about the airframe exploding!

i would say arround 650$ without the pipe? but you can put it on an whiplash and it will hold. 200$ only for a new one. if you can get it

Sorry man, I would suggest maybe the OS, the JETT sport engines would be great, the JETT50 Super Sport, the West50VI would haul the mail too and isn't that expensive.

Rossi .40 is a good value, but its kinda heavy.

Jett. 46 or .50 will haul serious hiney.

Value selection : TT .46 with a jett-stream muffler installed. Put a 9x7 on it and hang on :)

Of note, the OS46FX runs more like the TT than the AX version does. The AX is more conservatively timed - does not go for the higher rpms as well.

None the less, you can install the jett-stream on a OS46AX and gain another 1000-1500 rpm instantly too. Use a 9x8 or 9x9.

Your FX pipe installation will work on the AX if you had it set up to run with a 10x6.

Use no larger than a 9" diameter prop on the DD. Any of the APC D-1 series Q-500 props work well, 8.8x8.75 or 8.8x9 are worth trying - as are the standard blade 9x7, 9x8, 9x9.

The old 46 size Ducted Fan motors are good candidates too, but they are getting harder to find and still seem to command pretty big dollars for them.
Supertiger is another overlooked engine, they aren't the hottest engines out there, but very good reliable engines. If you're looking at the OS46FX style engines, the Supertiger is a good option, a little less money and in my experience longer lasting.

Best bang for the buck I think is the WEST50VI, but they're in the UK, next best bang for the buck is definitely the JETT stuff with US servicing which is always a bonus. The JETT stuff will run well with their muffler systems too, the WEST50VI isn't happy unless it's on pipe.
