I keep reading about the damage to the underside of
Magnum ARF's. I made some mods that protect the front end and give the launching person some help holding the aircraft properly during launch. Syd |

Go to a good hardware store and buy the lightest screen door handle they have. ACE Hardware has small light handles.
Glue a 1/4 x 1 x1 block under the engine and another one to the back end of the fuel tank compartment floor. Install a 10-32 tee nut to each block that aligns to the mounting holes of the handle.. Mount the handle using aluminum hardware screwed into the tee nuts. Syd |

Cut a 1/16th slot on the inside of the handle with a Dermel
disk cutter. Some handles have this slot allready installed. Cut a 1/16th plywood filler and glue it to the handle as shown. This keeps you from getting your fingers caught in the handle during launch but supplies a good gripping area. Paint it your favorite color before installing. Syd |

If you want make some rudder type adjustments with
the handle just cut the barbs off the tee nut and make a side-to-side slot out of the front mounting hole. This will allow you to adjust for good straight up performance and eliminate any side skid coming out of a split-S as the Magnum does not have a rudder to tweak or a good way to install right thrust on the engine. Put large pin holes around where the handle mount touches the fuse and saturate these holes with thin CA. Use heavy duty clear tape attached to the bottom of the fuse to save the covering from scratches. (note darker area on the bottom of fuse). Syd |

Oh My god........I suppose when its not at the field you turn it upside down and use it as a tea tray!!!!HaHa..sorry only joking!!!
I thought speed was essence of the day, been flyin mine for a year with a strip of lite alloy as a skid pan...no need for all this aerodynamic changing technology!! :D |

A hot cup of tea will melt that shelf paper covering. Hi. Did you put an ounce of lead in the left wing to offset the heavy tuned pipe or do you fly it around with your ailerons off set? Syd |

Well looking in my diary I bought the Mag from U.K on my last visit home, 18 months ago..so she's doing well!!
To answer the question, yes after the first few flights I added about 5g I think ?? to the opposite wing tip as the pipe, just cut a slot and epoxied it in. As for the skid plate this has proved a great success for me, the sand out here in Dubai is hard when we have wet and rolled it, so the conventianal planes can take off and land. It's more like landing on tarmac than sand, although a bad landing can fill the carb nicely with sand!!! Here a few pics |

All the above Ideas look very operative in the protection of the bottom of the jet, never the less the wing tips and leading edge need protected, any ideas?

When the weather breaks around here I'll know more about
protection of the wings. I have the same door handle on a Foxfire Delta and it is providing good protection to the wing LE and Tips. Syd |
Magnum Mod
If you look close at the 2nd picture the wing tips have small nylon skids under the L.E.
Also what you can't see is both wing L/E have had the yellow covering removed back about 1/2" a layer of thin fibreglass and resin layed arouend the front edge, then re-covered..with next to no weight gain. As I said this was a very early Mag and has lasted longer than most of my conventianal planes. Best Seasonal wishes to you all !! Lee |

Maybe it just needs a set of landing gear. also has anyone experienced any problems with the motor. i put a 9x6 apc on it and started it for the first time and it ran for a few seconds i leaned it abit and it screamed for a second and then quit. blew the plug, blew four plugs in a row and made an awful noise. finally gave up and took the head of and it was full of meatel shavings. any ideas on what happened?
