Four stroke OR Two stroke for speed!
 

I am thinking of a Great Planes Minnow, I have a friend with a Little Toni that has an OS 91 FOUR stroke, Pretty fast... My question is what do i need to beat him? A Four stroke of a little larger displacement such as the saito 100.. Or a YS 110.. OR a Good Two stroke 91 to 108?

For that matter ONE for ONE which will be faster a four stroke or a Two Stroke... Thanks Russ

Oh no!

Opinions vary- depends alot on the airframe obviously--

For your application any YS from 91 to 120 will do it the best balance of power and weight IS the 1.10 Dave mentioned---

Best 2C setup I know of to date.... several of these flying...

Jett SJ-90LX - T configuration, same setup used on the GP Toni

prop 11x8, 11x9, 12x6 between 14,200 - 14,700 rpm

Reports on speed for this vary a bit, but are between 130 and 140 mph (radar gun in each case)

The YS110 might be a good 4-stroke choice. Load that thing up with a 13x10 and let it turn.

Did the Toni and Alley Cat with Jett 91 thing, not impressed, although the AC is a tad faster, proven in a fly off, but just a tad. The Sacramento guys seem to all be going to the YS 110 for their war birds. Chuck at RC Country, Sacramento, was in the process of stuffing a 110 in a AC and come down to a fly off with us in March, but alas a conflict in schedules. He claims to run 30% fuel with a apc 12 X 14 to kick butt which will automaticallty raize a storm of no-no-no from a bunch of you guys. From experience, I would put serious money on Chuck! Don't have the heart to crank up my 110 and probably hirt it, just runs so sweet in the UCD.

hey roger. Its too bad i didnt get my alley cat dialed in that day. since then i have dialed it in and i would say you where very correct. It blows my little toni away. I would say atleast 10-15mph faster. I would love to get togeter with chuck and see what his ys110 is like against my 90lx. If not soon we should see if we could all get together next march.

I wanted to give my 2 cy. ( Jett ) recommendation but the last 2 stroke vs 4 thread I saw got UGLY [sm=punching.gif]

I really enjoyed the YS-1.10 Powered Excelleron pattern plane I had a couple flights on also-

The YS is about $340 (?)
How much is the Jett-90?

335 for the basic engine and i think another 25dollars for the lx version.

SJ-90L is $375 plus $25 for the LX upgrade (per april 06 price sheet)

Actually the new secret weapon Dub built not long ago for someone is the BSE-100LX.

Its rare that Dub gets on the phone and calls me in the middle of the day - but he did when he test ran that engine. I could 'hear' him smiling through the phone.

Only a few of these are flying. Unfortunately one of those owners seemed a bit reluctant to follow advise on the fuel system and the prop selection. I think Dub has it back in the shop for repair.

(cost, im not entirely sure, but I seem to recall it was around $475 in the Toni configuration - its BSE, and far from inexpensive)

The only reason i really mentioned the YS is that i can get one that is new in box for about 250.00!.. Other than that i was just wondering if an off the shelf TWO stroke such as the 90 to 108 would out perform an OS 91 FOUR stroke.. Im sure the saito 100 would out do it as it is larger.... The OS 91FX or TT91 would likely be good choices - either would outperform the OS91FS.

The YS is definately the prefered of the ones noted. For $250 - should be a good investment :)
