Make sure your Whiplash will leave the launcher fast in any
situation, prop size, or engine size, with a small modification. Install a cross brace between the rail stand uprights. Make sure it is installed low enough to clear the prop safely. You can use a wood dowel or a fiberglass rod. It is required to keep the rail spacing correct correct for the shuttle during a power launch. See next post.... Syd |

Using three #108 rubberbands tied together and attached
between the top end of the rail stand and the wing tips of the the Whiplash on each side.. The rubberbands are 7 inches long by 5/8 inch wide and .065 inches thick. The three of them tied together unstreached is about 19 inches long... Syd |

I plan on changing from the rubberbands to 3/16 bungie
cord as soon I can find a shop that sells it by the foot. The rubber bands will not last long in the sun day after day. Install a small divit at the back of each wingtip for the rubber to rest in. Wouldn't want the rubber to slip into the aileron crack. The rubberbands can be pruchased at most independent office supply stores. NOTE; The top of the rubber is slipped under the leading edge wing tip on eachside. This makes sure it disconnects properly during the launch.. The Whiplash will leave fast, straight, and level using this method. Next mod will be a setup for other types of aircraft... Syd |

You can eliminate most of your up trim during a
power launch. It will not sink. Syd |
: )
Syd, you never cease to amaze me, is there anything you wont try?
that looks like it would catapult the whiplash in a big way!!! |

Thank you Rick, The parts you sent worked fine.
The local club members were afraid of it at first. I found myself standing in the middle of a big field by myself on the first launch. When they saw it shoot straight away and level they changed their thinking. Have a great holiday and a super 2003. Syd |
: )
Glad they worked for you, you got the whip too right?
always good to see what you come up with next, hell you're saving us a mint on R&D : ) Happy Holidays, make sure and wax that ford red launcher.. :stupid: |

Home Depot sells bungee cord by the foot but a better alternative might be surgical tubing as used in sailplane high starts'. Most all medical supply shops will sell it by the foot and it comes in many different sizes....

HI Syd.
To cool. Did you make the launcher yourself? I assume the black tubing is PVC? Where did you find that small of a diameter? And do you have some more detailed pics. This looks like a good project. Thanks |

Happy Holidays tlpayne:
I purchased the Whiplash Launcher kit from Rick at Aerojet Composite Models in Broussard La. http://www.aerojetmodels.com It doesnt take long to put it together if you want to use it as is. I took some extra time to paint it and make some modifications. The black tubing is from ACM. Rick will sell you as much as you want. It is made out of fiberglass. What I wanted was a safe one man power launcher because these 200+ MPH Whiplash planes do make some of our club members very nervous. Most of the time I try and fly it during slow periods except when I need witnesses on the speed runs... I'll send some pictures to your E-mail. Syd |
