what was your first speed plane?

Hey guys,

My first attempt to even making a plane go faster was my second plane made by Phoenix Models !QUOT!Scanner!QUOT!.

Its max speed I could ever get out of it was 115mph, with a TTpro .46 with a performance spec. pipe, and using an APC 10x8.

My dad had a Hobbico Spectrum, He got 123mph. He used Mvvs.77 and used an APC 10x10.

First plane I had that would quality as a speed plane I guess was a quickie 500. It was what I built after I soloed with my trainer.
Had an Enya 40 on it that cranked out pretty good RPM, I'd guess it was doing 120 to 130.

First plane I had that I consider fast was a Minnow Formula one plane with a Nelson, it would probably hit about 180 out of a dive.

World Models T-34 with OS 46 FX and tuned pipe then a Whiplash with a YS 45 RE.
Like night & day:D

RE: what was your first speed plane?

My 1st fast plane would be a FOX .36 powered combat plane on 60 foot lines. It did / does just over 2 second laps.....roughly 115 mph. First fast RC plane was a .049 powered ACE GLH, it probably did 80 mph in a dive but looked much faster. What we sense [speedwise] is relative. I would get a kick out of handing the handle of a 100 mph C/L plane to someone used to flying RC at 180 mph, just to see the reaction.

RE: what was your first speed plane?

My very first was a De Bolt Cobra (P-39 semi scale) powered by a Super Tigre 40. I used to race it in Formula II. You can tell how old I am. I now fly a Great Planes Combat Corsair powered by an AXI 2810/10 electric motor. That one goes down the road pretty fast too. It's enough for my age.

Kangke F-20, MVVS .45. I have been playing with the same models for 7years now and love flying them today as much as back then. Got clocked at 106 with the gun same model but clapped out .46Fx.
Playin with a Predator and TT.46 nowadays. It's faster:eek:

Freedom slope glider, very quick. I have a set of ribs from it that I still use for speed planes, thin and efficient....

Art Smith built Quickie 500, High wing with conventional tail. It was mostly white, with a black speckled paint scheme that looked pretty cool. I had an O.S. .25fx on the plane (it actually belonged to my father-in-law) and on a good day could just touch 100 mph.

It didn't last long, as it made a spectacular midair in the fall of 1998' in my 2nd lap of my first lap ever. The rest is history, and I have raced and gone fast ever since.

A Sig Super Sport with a Veco.19R/C, did about 65mph. It seemed real fast to me then!:D

Wow, okay I had a 25 sized "EZ Reno Racer" with an OS-28F that was fast.... Circa 1984? My 25 sized SUpra Fly was pretty fast with that same engine...

RE: what was your first speed plane?

Guess mine would be the WM Dago Red I built 4 yrs. ago? Modified Webra .50 w/ Ultra Thrust muffler..."Nitro Junkie" radared it at 125-126 on a Banzai (head on [X(] ) pass right down the centerline of the runway :D[8D]

Got a Cermark "Bobcat" w/ an Evo .46NT and Tower muffler that will hit 100...

Scat Cat with a Fox 36 and tuned pipe, I had radared it at 127MPH, I visited the SIRS field in Bloomington ILL, a guy there had a Scat Cat with a Nelson, lapped me but quick.

RE: what was your first speed plane?

Ditto on the Scat Cat but with a Picco 45 rear induction rear exhaust with pipe. Don't blink. The engine then found a home on a Diamond Dust. Again don't even think about blinking. Got to be thinking about 800' in front of where you are at any point in time. The engine now comfortably rests in a Shrike.

There is a Trim Spectre on the table that is in the works with a OS 91. Advertised as a 220mph machine but I don't believe it.

1980 my second plane a modified Super Hunter powered by a Super Tigre 40 with OPS marine nitro pipe set at about 10 inches, tuned for 35% nitro, rev-up 8.50x7, weight 7.5 pounds dry 470 square inches, a handfull to land but very impressive speed out of a dive. It came out heavy because I built it strong before I knew much about wing loading.[X(]

I think if it weighed 3 lbs more it would have hit 200 in a dive.:D

I am much to humble to dig out old pics of me when I was cool. I was one of the pink shirt and knit tie guys.[8D]
Now I just have a cool kid and I am the old, fat, bald guy who does stuff with him.

RE: what was your first speed plane?

The first plane that I had that was fast (faster than a trainer anyway) was a SPAD Delta I built with a bushing 40 of some sort.. Flew like crap but it was pretty quick I thought.. Next was a Q-500 with a OS .46 and I thought that was scary fast.. Then, the end of the year it was a Q-500 with a Nelson on it now we're talking, upwards of 160.. Of course, that only leads to one place -- Q40'ville :D

My first speed plane was a [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/projeti.htm]Projeti[/link] with a brushless setup. Good for about 90mph. Next was a TT 46 powered GP Viper.

Scratch built ME163 from MAN plans. Many years ago......

Here is a video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...36290087&hl=en
Cool! I was waiting for the dolly to drop off! Hey that don't sound like no speed engine on thar..

Interesting.. do these plans exist somewhere? I guess I could check my MAN plans directory couldn't I. Now, to tuck in a rear exhaust 60 and build in a duct to vent the exhaust out the tailpipe, rig a drop-off dolly, and...

Alwys loved this aircraft. Being a rockethead has a bit to do with that of course.
