Weston Magnums...

Is there a difference in a regular Weston Magnum and a Magnum R????

RE: Weston Magnums...

Slight update, lazer cut parts vs die cut. Minor difference in wing shape. Checkerboard covering on the bottom of the wing.

RE: Weston Magnums...

Where there any major design differences that will make a huge difference in the way it flies, or will the original Magnum fly just as good as the R version??

Thanks
Chris..

If you look in the classifieds there is a new in box Magnum for sale for $90 + $15 shipping.

You can usually go to Ebay under toys & hobbies & type in Magnum & they are usually there for $70 shipped to your door.

I ordered mine off ebay & had it in 11 days & the plane is really nicely covered.

I will be mounting my Jett 60LX & should break 90-100 mph I hope!! ;)

Hope this helps you, you speed addict!!!

I bought one of these on ebay and will be building it maybe next year. It should move well above 100 with the 60. I want to keep mine cheap with a thunder tiger 46 or tower 46. I have a Super Tiger 51 that I could use but it doesn't seem to revup like the thunder tiger.

A clubmate of mine has one with a .46FX. He is a cool 130-140. I plan to put either a TT.46 or Jett SJ.50 in mine.

I think you should get well over 100 mph with that engine. I know they have 200 mph on the box of the R with the Weston Magnum 50 engine and tuned pipe.

RE: Weston Magnums...

I was just joking about the 100 mph. I meant to say @ 1/2 throttle ;)

Jet 60LX is one bad boy!!

Rear exhaust to boot.

Sure makes a Diamond Dust scoot.

Will also try it on Mikes R/C Screamon Demon

Yes I also have a problem with speed addiction. [sm=drowning.gif]

P.S. I really don't want a cure. :D

Hey Speed Freaks I have 2 of the Weston Magnum 40 Arf it says 200mph I will find out if they will hold up to the 200 mk. I bought 2 of them just for the RUSH 1 for A Trainer with A 40 LA the other will get A Dub Jett 40 This is my 4th year in RC Aircraft I Fly the Big Scale Birds most of the time But When You feel Like Blowin Off Some Steam A fast Prop Jett Is A FIX I Have 1 F20 That Is A Blast It Might get 100 now I wanna see 200 . I will get Back with setup.

RE: Weston Magnums...

200 Kph maybe.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] 200 Mph only in the cargo hold of a fast cargo jet. Even w/the west engine combo, pipe and all it aint no 200 Mph bird.
.40La is a waste of time and would be an embarassment to the model, Jett .40, now yer talkin 150 Mph quite handily.

I also have one. I am putting my Nelson Q500 engine on it. Think it should scoot just fine.

RE: Weston Magnums...

The Magnum CAN NOT do 200mph, even with a Nelson. Sorry...

Maybe not, but I will have fun trying!!!

Granted, they are a good flying airplane and one of the fastest ARF's out there...

Hey Evan,
What kind of Sick electro set up you going to put in yours:D?

Mine is one of the very first one's into the US. Bought it at Joe Nall 7 years ago or so. It has a lot of flights on it and looks it. I did build a second one that had a radio issue on the first flight and flew away, never found it...

I'll think about a "sick" electric setup when I can do it for under $500, we're getting closer... at some point electric will get this airframe to 200mph. It'll take about 8-10hp and a bunch or R's to do it though.

Did it come orange like that?

Since I started racing Club 40, orange is the new black.;)

RE: Weston Magnums...

No, I stripped off the china kote and while it was bare I smoothed all the leading and trailing edges and filled in around the motor. It was really nice looking... before it flew away. It's was last seen headed towards the atlantic on it's own, lost sight at about a mile away.... we looked for a few days for it.

BTW: What is the wing area on the Magnum? It looks like it would have similar wing loading to my Jepe Pyranha. (26oz/ft)

RE: Weston Magnums...

i had a friend at the club that had a magnumr. i have the magnum. Besides the ceckered board bottom and the wind saddle there are two other things i noticed. There are two wing dowels instead of one and there is a seperate small door behind the wing on the newer model where the old one is incorporated into the wing. He spent $167 i spent $75 on ebay the fit and finish on the newer magnumr is much improved even the top of the airplane (fiberglass work) looks nicer but they both fly fine.
