Prop Jets - We need a sticky!

It has come to my attention that I have a prop jet addiction after flying my Bobcat for several months.

I have been searching for prop jets and have found the usual, but I keep thinking there must be more out there.

I'll post a few and if it is something of interest to all it will get added to and we can ask the mods to make it a sticky.

Well I feel a little silly, this produced about as much excitement as wetting oneself in dark pants, you can feel it but no one knows the difference. hmmmm.......[X(]

Maybe everyone agreed with you and had nothing further to say?..

Long time ago I suggested (maybe others did too) regarding Q500 ARF's and modifications deemed necessary to keep them together, esp. with engine upgrades. Same level of interest/response. Yet still, the question pops up with semi-regularity regarding dropping powerful engines on Predators or Vipers, and the same answers get reposted. Oh well.

Add the Weston Magnum to your list because it one of the fastest ones out there. Maybe it will casuse someone else to wet their pants. One of the reasons I like the propjets is they are pretty in the air and look more jet like but the speeds of most of the ones being sold now aren't that fast. The Magnum with a powerful motor will move along nicely. The Patriot with a 90 sized powerful motor also moves. Most with suggested sport engines aren't but a few mphs faster that Ultra Sticks.

MJD,

I hear what you are saying, but I need participation in the way of links.

buzzinngb,

One of the reasons I love prop jets is that they fly like jets. I agree most are not very fast but speed costs money. The modern prop jets allow you to get the jet "feel" without the expense of a turbine, or the headaches for that matter. It's not all bad is it?

Magnum Added

Anyone, everyone I NEED YOUR PROP JET LINKS! :D:)

Don't forget King Kobra.

Maybe a 'Prop Jet forum' is needed. The Bob Cat thread at 108 pages might be an indication of the need.

I also like prop jets (flying 3 Kougars, a King Kobra and working on 2 Bob Cats) but don't have an interest in extreme speed. Heck I have a pattern airplane that flies faster than all of the above.

How about the old Royal F4J Phantom? I have recently added one of these kits to my must-build-one-day collection. There seems to be very little information about this kit, even here in RCU.

Great idea AGR! I have tried similar posts in the past and as long as it helps someone, at some point it is worth while. :D

I will always love prop-Jets. The Patriot is my sentimental favorite, and the Whiplash and Phenom's are awesome deltas...

I always wanted to build the Combat Models F-15 (Pusher) and put a hot engine on it like a Jett-50/ Jett-60LX and retracts. They are hard to find and most folks want the bigger F-16N.

The following three pusher designs are very similar but with different wing area.

Nitro Bob Cat - 666 sq. in. wing
KeeCat - 763 sq. in.
Falcon 120 - 1007 sq. in.

Falcon 120 vs Bobcat 50
I have Bobcat 50 with tower 75. Have a buddy with the Falcon 120 he was thinking of put OS 160. Question?
What will be faster the bob w\75 or the Falcon with 160.

I built and am flying Rene's U-2. Fun build, not very fast but big on the WOW factor taking off and landing. Khelsea Lanny

I saw a new prop jet at the AMA show. It is a F86D Super Sabre from Nitro Models:

Nice looking bird.... looks like about the size of the old Byron F-86

What the heck would you power that with? YS140 ? OS140 or 160 ?

I could probably get it off the ground and perform decent with a 90L up front ... but its a biggggg bird.
