Force one os.46la question

What prop would you guys recommend for this air plane. I have a 10x6 but that seems a little big for speed purposes. Any thoughts?

A 46LA isnt really the type of engine you want to use. I belive a good 46 fx would be much better or even a jett 50! But if you have to use the LA i would start with a 10x6 and go from there.

The LA is the only spare engine I have lying around. So it wins be default. My friend is talking about loaning me a OS 45 max. Do you guys think it will improve performance any?

RE: Force one os.46la question

If your friend's .45 is a BB schnurle ported engine, it should provide a boost over the LA.

For the LA to make any decent power and speed, it's gonna need to turn. I think I'd try props like 10x6, 9x7, 9x8, 8x8, and maybe 7x9 to start. Some of those may need to be cut down from larger sizes, not sure.

At least you won't thrash the bearings outta the LA. A bit of extra castor might be in order for protection. They resist abuse fairly well in my experience.

Thanks, it is a BB I don't know about the porting. How can you tell?

9x6, 9x7 or a 10x6. Nothing bigger.

It's a Shnurle ported motor (the .45) an as long as it's not worn out will be a much better fit for the 9X7 you'll need for speed.

The LA is picky about props and a 10X6 is about the best for your application.

put a tower 45 muffler and pick up about 2,000 rpm over the stock muffler

Put the tower muffler on the LA? Which muffler are you referring to? There is two on there site.

If the bolt pattern on the LA is the same as the FX or TT Pro then this will work.

I have seen this muffler boost performance on some engines but I doubt a 2000 rpm increase is realistic. I have seen more like 800-1000 rpm gain.

RE: Force one os.46la question

Its not the same. The LA is its own pattern...

I took her out for the maiden flight last night. Every thing went well. Take offs are long!! But once in the air she flies great. I think I will try the .45 today. Thanks for everyone's input..

RE: Force one os.46la question

the LA's respond well to tuned pipe/tuned mufflers but dont last long because not designed for the power increase, except the .10 and .15's.

for the LA's move the exhaust timing up .020 and widing it just a hair clean up the transferports open the carb up, and some crank cleanup and easily pick up 3,000 on a 10x6

RE: Force one os.46la question

Hello folks. I am going to try the OS .45 max this weekend. Weather permitting of course. The OS .46 la flew just fine but it did seem to lack a little umph. Hopefully the .45 will change that. I will report back after the flights. Thanks for all of the help.
