Hi guys, have noticed a few viewers of my post but no responses so either people are scared off by the big size or they are too polite to say it's crp.

Anway I've reduced the size to ----> 6mb <------ and pulled the Satriani, so you can really here the Magnum winding up, I think you will be surprised how much a Super Custom .53 can howl on a standard exhaust and Tractor prop..

I hope this is a more agreeable size for you all. Drop a reply to let me know what you think.

If that one is doing 277kmh, then mine is doing 450.... no kidding... I haven't measured mine, but I estimate it is doing about 250 on the flat (kmh)...

I know at times it looks like its a long way up but that pass just before where it titles 277 etc... was only a few feet above our heads, everyone was like ducking with the noise of it. You can feel the sound vibrations in your bones when its that close. Believe me, I've been in motorsport and 500cc racing, It looked like 277 to me. Can't wait to get the West out there and a real prop.

I think it looks slower on the vid than what it really is.

:p LOL... well of course I do...

His engine is doing about 5000 rpm less than mine by the sound of it and I'm quite sure my Magnum isn't going faster than 277 kmh, so where does his speed come from?

Not much point in buying the West engine with the pipe and all the trimmings if you can get this speed from a customised .53 on a muffler with a "tractor prop" on it... is there?

So, yes, I base my statement on that vid...

Or he has been tampering with the sound of the vid, thats' possible too...:D

try the doppler shift program you can download from my site.
play the video sound into it, use the excell spreadsheet, bingo speed, IM PROPPER TERMS! MPH!!!!!! :P

I got the 277 from the doppler speed program, same pass that's on that vid. go ahead and measure it for yourself. if you can't get more than 277 out of your Magnum with a west pipe then no wonder you always fly around full throttle. Did you ever stop to look down the carby barrel and see if it's opening past half way?

200mph is around 350Km/hr that's a full 70k's faster than mine to the 'advertised' speed. Can't wait to fit the West...

you dun half heave that thing about, hope your wing holds!
i'd image you'd go a bit quicker if you lose the smoke trail and went a bit leaner :D
the program works well, i find the best results are within 20 feet and dont follow the plane, for mine i put the camera out on the patch and get them to fly over it, you can see a video where Jamie went right over it!
as for close passes, have a look at my Magnum vids, now thats close! :p

no, i just found if i checked passes on the other side of the patch you got quite a shallow drop off and that dosnt give good results as the diffrence in pitch is normally less too, you get the best results when you fly over the camera about head height. get the pilot to make a pass where hes happy, run out, dump the cam, get a few passes and get the cam back.
i dodnt see why tracking the plane will give a bad result, maybe it just the situation.
i did download it, i tried the first time but saw the MB and clicked off, 6 would scare me, but i thought sod it, i got time to kill.
adding graphics seriously raise the file size

Come on guys... I'm not looking to start a riot here.

I am by no means an expert, but I've been at plenty pylon races, and when I see those planes shooting through the sky all I can say is that my Magnum isn't going as fast as them...

It fast and fun to fly, but I honestly don't think it is doing 200 mph.

And yes, my carb is openend all the way, and the engine is revving pretty good on the 8x8...

Of course videos can be deceiving, but all I did was saying what I think... What's wrong with that?
If you got 277 with the spectrum analiser, who am I to argue with that...

Philly has put a lot of time into the doppler thing, trying to get it to work properly, so I'm sure he knows what he's doing... If he gets 185 mph consistently I believe him. Then my Magnum can't be far behind, because it's the same thing...


About the Shrike, the one that is only capable of turning left :p , I thought it was doing like 110, 120 maybe (mph)...
If you have got evidence it is faster, good for you, then you've got a fast plane.


I guess I'll have to look into the spectrum analiser thingy before saying anything around here... :(

I was thinking the same thing on the speed of the Shrike. I'm just getting into fast planes and Loving it. This is new to me. I'm also checking out the doppler. Those guys have put alot of work into that program and I'm glad they are sharing it with the Revver Brotherhood.

all credit must goto John Hughan who wrote program, im just sharing it and Philippe who wrote the temperature update, he was hoping to have a fully automatic program running, insert video, get speed. i've not heard any more on this since.

btw, cheap speed....
Mini Rapier ( Redruth & District Model Flying Club own design based on the Ripmax Rapier ) add a Leo 37 'sf' and you get 165mph!! 175 downwind on the test day, this was with the 7.5mm carb and muffler, Jamie killed his Rapier on the first flight with a new Leo37, the 8mm MVVS carb ( faster ) which when RAN IN he would use a pipe on.
hes got a new airframe on the way and will be back out soon, this thing is QUICK!
for the cost of the Magnum airframe, you've got a engine and plane thats just a few MPH down

Ok, how do I get a .wav file to play in the spectrogram?

This may sound as a dumb question, but computers aren't really my cup of tea...:p

The spectrogram program only works with wav files, so I need to extract the sound from that movie one way or an other... Am I making any sense here?

you can analize a input, put a microphone up to the speaker and play it.
either that or use video editing software to rip the sound out and then analize file

Might sound crazy but....

Was measuring up the CG on my Twinjet tonight, thinking about throwing the .53 in that......

Problem is the motor needs to sit quite far back and it would require spinning a prop shaft (don't even know anyone with a metal lathe) and running mid mount (would be original!) or cutting of a lot of the front and then having to reshape and fly a seriously short plane. Where the CG sits, cutting off enough of the nose to balance (even with the rx pack sitting between the standard cans) would make it the length of a Magnum less about 25 cm.... short plane, would flip well, don't know about the directional stability or high speed stability though....
