I'm looking for the smoothest, slickest most aerodynamic propjet I can find...something that takes the least amount of power necessary to go fast!--Oh yeah and it's got to be retract capable. I know the Magnum is fast and I'll probably end up with one someday, but for now I need something to take off & land on a runway...

I'm sure you guys have plenty of ideas about this-let's hear 'em!

Thanks--Windwalker

Always enjoy seeing your hanger Razor-what about the F 16?
Just eyeballin' it looks like it could be less draggy/more aero than some of the above what do ya think?

Razor-RCU 06-06-2003 02:20 PM

uh...

Do you mean the Cermark F-16? Or the Combat Models F-16?

The CBM is the best looking IMHO- but the build is messy, it ends up with little dents everywhere, and the cust. service is the worst in RC-

The Cermark F-16 (I have not had) is supposed to be a good flyer- but it is a tank... throw a 90 in it maybe??

What size are you looking for?

Hope this helps!
james

Windwalker 06-06-2003 03:48 PM

F 16

60-90 size, Maybe put a Rossi 90-105 on it or a Jett if I can scrape up the bones.
BTW- When you say tank you mean heavy or tough?

Razor-RCU 06-06-2003 04:04 PM

Tank-

Both I guess...

I was gonna mention a Rossi or Jett but some people are tired of hearing the $300 answer :D

The MVVS-77 would probably do well, the OS-91VRDF would be the ticket if you could get it in there-

....in the .45 size it's the Patriot, or the Direct Connections
F-20....for sleekness, and good looks....as well as speed. :D

A D/C F20 is fun to fly with a Jett.50! and retract's are a breeze to put in! All the planes above are pretty cool too!

Direct Connection F-20 with a Jett .50. There is no better combination. Patriot is just as good but the F20 can be considered Sportscale thus allowed in some scale events

Forget the F-16....yes, they look nice....I have one....
....it's a good plane....flies like a pattern ship....no bad
habits, but it's like a telephone pole with stabilizers on it.

I have an OS 1.08 FSR in mine....with the bulbous canopy
and the airscoop undernieth....it won't go fast, no matter
what you put in it....

....stick with the F-20's.... :D (or the Patriot)

Dave. :)

Does anyone know the Direct Connection website? Interested in buying one ASAP.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info, ordered one at $150!

What engine, prop, retracts for turbine qualifying speed?

Thanks

Dave

Flyboy Dave 06-25-2003 09:33 PM

It comes down to a matter of....

....preference and pocketbook. The Jett .50, or the Rossi
.45....I can't tell you which one is the fastest for sure....
they both use 9-7 props.

To retract, or not to retract....that is another question.
I just use the small skinny Williams Bros. smooth contour
wheels....PN # 14000. Do you see retracts on pylon
racers ?

I really don't see the advantage with small planes, using
3 retract units....2 servos, a bigger battery, and the
unclean surfaces on the underside of the wings, and the
front of the fuse where the wheels go in the up position....
with the adittional weight ....how much speed is gained.

I see the F-20 is an almost ready to cover plane. How long is it taking you guys to get this plane flight ready from box to air? It looks really sharp, I just don't have loads of time to spend building and wanted either a precovered arf plane that is a rocket or else something I can cover and complete somewhat fast. Any insight is appreciated. The F20 looks good, I am open to other ideas.

Sparks,
I just got my F-20 in the air and it took a little longer because I stripped off the factory Ultracote and fiberglassed and airbrushed a paint scheme.
It could have been ready in 15 hours, but I had other things to do around the house so it took me closer to 50 hours.

It's a great plane and it flies great...straight up forever and speeds across the flightline in a blink!
It's a cermark f-20

Hey Zsparks,
The DC F20 goes to together pretty quick, only if you do mods does it get timely! I did my F20 all in Monocote (pic above) and with all the detail to the cockpit it took a bit. Also putting in retracts takes a bit, but I prefer air so it was worth it! I'm now going to a Jett.60 .. curious to see if there's a difference!

Razor-RCU 06-27-2003 06:19 AM

Nice-Good job on the "20"-

Is that a Rossi-45 on there? Good for about 105 DB's right?

A Jett 60 will be ballistic!

If your asking about mine I put a Jett.50 on it and now trying the Jett .60.. I once had a Rossi .60 on it, but it was too heavy! My Db's last weekend were 100-101, which is funny because my buddy with a stock muffler on a Webra .50 was 103! He was pissed! So go fiqure!

hockeypilot 06-27-2003 12:53 PM

F20

That's a Morris/Rossi .45, it turns 16,400 with an APC 10 x 6
All up weight is 5 lbs. 11 ozs. it should come across the field at about 96 mph's, give or take a bit. Unlimited vertical and it's a great plane-- it rips!
