Wow!!, that thing is really hauling!

I've got a Mach Racer with a Magnum .46 on it that is much slower than the one in the vid (about 120mph with a 9x8 APC). At those speeds, the elevons are trying to rip apart where the control horn is attached. I can't imagine it lasting long with the West .50 on it.

Yer that started to happen with me, so I pulled the elevon off and added an extra hinge plus supports for horn. Digi servos too. swinging a 9x7. 10x6 was good too.

Wow! I have only flown 1 (Flyboy Dave's) and even with a normal powerplant it sounded like a snare drum!

Impressive video- now put that engine in a Whip, Phenom, or DD. :D

Losing that landing gear realy can add some speed too.

Nope! That's even shorter yet.. :):

"The Diamond Dust CW KIT features lightweight balsa, composite tubes,
and light-ply construction.

This lightly loaded delta wing design makes it ideal for extremely
aggressive maneuvers as well as excellent low speed maneuverability.
The CW version has a more narrow wingspan combined with a more
aggressively swepped leading edge.

Wing Span 29 7/8.in
Wing Area 480 sq in
Wing Loading 12 oz / sq ft
Weight 2.5 -3.0 lbs

Ok, so for all out speed the clipped wing is the best? The visability might be harder no?
I need to try one of these.
The mach racer is pretty light. I don't know if the dd has a better laminar aerofoil for greater speed?

RE: YT Mach Racer

It advises bigger 50 size engine for clipped wing too i notice.
I wonder if bigger dd can take a 50 as it says to 40 and what noticiable difference there is between a normal dd and clipped dd with a 50?

Airfoil? DD? No, those two words don't belong in the same sentence. The name had to come from somewhere! At the speed and weight, during most flight the Cl is so low that a flat plate would likely make little difference. In the turns, well, hard to say who wins there, dunno much about the Mach racer. Have you seen a DD turn? At the low weight, even though you lose a good chunk of speed in the turns, the darn thing just rockets outta there again so no big deal.

Clipped wing, regular wing - if it makes a difference that matters, some would say you shouldn't fly either! :) You can put a .50 on either.. they'll take any .40-size engine (sometimes jokingly reffered to as a "small block" around here) and several are flying on Jett 60LX's, which are "small block" engines. The next size up (roughly) is a .60/.61 size crankcase or "big block". OS .46/OS .61 are two good reference points as all the clones that made these sizes standard spawned from there. There are exceptions in the non-clone war engine brands of course.

You'll find some flight descriptions around here if you search the DD.
