will the pipe from my west 50 engine work on my 46 engine ?

should i still use the same prop? a 9/8

Hi SJN,

Looks cool but I don't know if you would get too much more power. My understanding of the pipes is that the reasonance chambers are spaced according to the engine to produce an exhaust extracting effect that will compliment the engines power band. But then again, who knows! it could be an absolute winner by fault of design... give it a go and let us know.

It would bring your engine up to max revs in a dive though so watch that you don't throw a rod at vertical (down).

You'll have to lengthen the pipe (resonance length) one way or another, because that engine is probably a lot slower than the WEST...

You need a piece of alu tubing that matches the pipe, and a very long silicone coupler (or maybe even 2)...

It flys GREAT with this pipe and engine

I would say that speed is up by 15 % , judged by the higer roll rates, and much better vertical, and the way it pulls through continiuos loops :-)

I had to richen it up quite a bit more than on the stock muffler. I managed to fly it lean, and burnt the plug. But just a few clicks more, and the problems were gone..

Im happy now :D

I see you still have the header at stock length... that's probably the reason why it works ok.

What RPM are you getting?
What brand of engine is that?
Did you alter anything on the porting/timing of that engine?
What happened to your West engine? Did you smoke it?

And last but not least... when are you going to show us a picture of that turbine when it is actually IN a plane, instead of putting it next to your other planes all the time...??? :D:D:D

Nice one SJN. I too have found the improbability factor often works in your favour with a hash up. :-)

Good work, now let's see you try grafting that turbine in to the Magnum. :-)

Rudeboy, I havn`t messured the RPM yet.... but This isn`t a stallar engine. It`s a fairly unknown Topaz engine that looks like an os 46SF clone. With the stock muffler I only got 14500rpm with a 9/7. I havn`t altered anything on this engine.

As for my west engine, When I broke the header, I put in this engine instead so I at least could fly..... Now that Ive got a new header Im too lazy to change engines again :D

BUT, I have some problems with the west.... I cant shut down the engine. I thnik it draws in faulse air in through the front bearings, as the thrust washer and bearing are a poor fit :mad:
If I dont rund the plane dry so the engine quits, I brake a prop evey tim I land....Too expensive in the long run. And the plug burns every time you fly it dry, as it leans out in te end....

But I have been thinking up a sorta solution.......just richen up the idle soo much tat it simply cant run in idle. I usualy fly full bore anyway :cool:
