Joe,

I don't mean to open a can of worms, but I really believe this policy is asking for trouble!

Example: 2 pilots on 72Mhz, same channel, don't co-ordinate, one or both of them are out of control in the air. One crashes in the pits, causing damage, the other crashes into the parking lot, causing even more damage! They both paid the pilot fee, so are officially pilots at this event. I don't think the statement that BITW and TailWinds Club will not be responsible, is going to hold up, when the damaged parties start looking for someone to sue!

I'm not even an attorney & I think I could make a pretty good argument that: #1- BITW &/or Tailwinds knew there was a potential for conflict/interference; #2- BITW &/or Tailwinds did nothing to control or mitigate such conflict; #3- BITW accepted Pilot's fees from involved Pilots and allowed them to fly un-controlled with said potential conflict. #4 - BITW &/or TailWinds should be held liable for all damages incurred[:@]

IMHO you should either 1- Ban them, due to insufficient manpower to monitor an impound, or 2- Have an impound and require all 72 Mhz pilots to use it, as in the past. To do neither, I think you would be leaving yourself wide open to potential financial disaster.

I do agree with what you are saying, but the AMA has not banned the use of 72mhz. The use of 72mhz at any event will be determined by the Contest Directors of there show, however, being this is the first time this subject has come to life and we are so close to the show date, I will allow them to fly at BITW. I do beleive there will only be 1 to 2 pilots flying on 72. If possible something may occur that I or Lowell does not like, then we will ban them for the rest of the show. In case of an accident, or a lock out, etc, etc, this can also happen to any 2.4 radio system and any brand radio. The AMA Sanction of BITW of the event will handle the rest.

Last thing about 72mhz, for anyone flying 72, we ask you to have each of you be on a differant channel from each other. Tony F has a bunch of JR Crystals for you to use, if that can"t happen and or you are flying with a differant radio other than JR, then you will have to use the frequency board, and go back to old school and put your AMA card in the clip and take the pin, and police yourselves. How boring just get yourself 2.4. JC!!!
