Just picked up my DLE 20 today at my LHS and now I need just the right plane to put it in. So far I am torn between 2 Great Planes models, the Super Skybolt and the Reactor bipe.
What do you guys think?

hey hey now were talking. we use to do that to our 2stroke motocrosses to keep
the nieghbors happy.

how much of a noise reduction did you notice? did it start taking on a deeper
tone? I'm betting you noticed no loss or mabey even a little gain with that setup.

thanks for posting!

Bill, that looks interesting. It would be nice if you had some before and after prop numbers for that. I am always looking for good ways to make my engines more quiet.

I have always liked the Skybolt and they fly great. On the other hand that Reactor bipe is sexy!

If you want aerobatics it is the Reactor hands down. The Skybolt for relaxed flying.

Lets say it the skybolt, is the DLE 20 going to be good power, or will it be like holy cow now this is great?

No one knows until it is flown with a DLE 20, until than all you will get is opinions and they are just that opinions and not actual experience with the combo. It amuses me when I hear this one say the DLE 20 won't fly this plane or that plane because of this or that when I bet most have not even flown the engine yet in anything or some probably don't even own the engine. Besides only you can decide on what you like because we are all different in our flying styles and demands on an airframe and engine.

Thanks

I dont have this engine but I know how I would set it up, like my others. I run a linkage out the front of the cowl. Ever since I saw someone do that, its been simple and easy. I would put an extension on the choke horn to move it out a bit, then bend some 2-56 wire for a little bit straighter shot out the front, then use some 90deg angled aluminum to guide it out next to the jug. The angled aluminum would be mounted to the flange motor mount bolts. Use nyrod to connect to the 2-56.

I know, I know, got no pictures. Clear as mud? Its really simple if someone has a picture.

I don't have the engine (yet) myself, but a friend does and we talked about the choke issue. I suggested using the flexible Nyrod inner and outer and simply run the Nyrod to the back of the engine at the firewall and then bend it so it goes out the side. We condsidered going out the bottom, but I though that might be a safety issue having to reach under the prop to get at the choke if the engine were running. My concern for the out-the-front choke wire is also the possibility that someone might reach through the running prop to get to the wire. My start protocol is choke on 'til it pops, then half choke 'till it runs, then choke off after a short warmup period. So, I may be actuating the choke while the engine is running. Maybe most others do not do this, and only choke until they get a pop and then choke off until it starts. Just a random thought of mine FWIW.

Sincerely,

Richard

1/2 choke is not needed, after it pops take the choke off and it will start right up and stay running.

Hey Jody...

I was half choking... starting... running few minutes.... shutting off.... no choke..... then normal run....

So you are saying I could just choke til a "pop"..... then start in normal run mode??

I've been out to try mine twice and have had 2 deadsticks. I think its loading up and quitting on me but my lsn is 3/4 turn out and I don't want to run it too lean. What is the general needle settings everyone is using? Should I lean the lowspeed more.

........my lsn is 3/4 turn out and I don't want to run it too lean.....

Here's a general rule of thumb for tuning it;

ADJUSTMENT: A general starting point is 1.5 turns out for the low speed needle
and 1.5 - 2 turns out for the high speed needle.

Adjust the High needle to peak rpm. If ever the engine slows or dies while at full throttle,
the high speed mixture is likely too lean.

Adjust the Low needle until you achieve a smooth idle and a reliable transition to high
throttle.

If the engine dies when the throttle is advanced, the mixture is likely too lean.

If the engine stumbles when the throttle is advanced, the mixture is likely too rich.

G,day
Can someone please advise me on which wire connection goes to where? 2 black/red/white and 1red/black on the DLE20cc.

Also whats the red/black loose wire with a red connection on one end and bare wire on the other for? This is loose in the packet when the motor arrived!

What about the 2 clear plastic (they look like some type of clip thing??????) what are these for?

Thanks

Just to give you an Idea my Skybolt with and OS 110 is 7.5 lbs which to me is more than enough power (unlimited vertical) with the DLE it should be ballistic.

How can you tell the difference between the real DLE vs the knockoffs. There are some on ebay going for $200.00 coming from china.. Are these fakes or real DLE's
