You can still find these kits available from private parties thankfully. I got both of mine here on RCU and I see that there are two on eBay right now. I can't wait to build mine! I bought one from here that had been damaged in a DS landing, then I found a new kit in the box and had to have it. Never flown a bipe before.

I'm not having an easy time finding one of these kits to build this coming winter. I had one back in the 90's and had an old O.S. 1.20 four stroke on it. Man that thing was great, even back then. Now, with the computer radios, I'm dying to try one again with mixing to get rid of the yaw coupling for knife edge. If anyone here wants to sell a kit, please PM me!

You can always scratch build one with the plans, or take those plans to a laser kit cutter. Of course it´s always better to find a nib kit, but is that's impossible, you will always have the possibility to make it the old way!

Do kit cutters need to pay fees for making kits out of an old plan?? Specially if the plan is old and no longer available.... For example, do kit cutters pay a fee to Zirolli?

You need to enable your Private Message feature.

Anyway... I want to buy the kit. Send me a PM or e-mail with what you want for it.

Finally I have bought an original engine mount for my of ft-120 gemini twin, so will fit the engine to the plane to verify the CG. Also I have made a trip today to the model shop and got some servos. I have finally got 2 futaba 3010 for the elevator, and a Graupner which for a price os 31eur (about $25) looks to be the best value, and I hope that as it´s a graupner item would be best quality, no??
http://aero-modelo.com/emisoras/serv...raupner-5.html
What do you think about this servo? Doubel ball bearing, metal gear, 0.11sec and 88Ncm at 4,8 volts. What would a futaba servo cost with this details???

For the ailerons I have some unused futaba 3001 and for the engine a standard 3003.....

At this point, looks to me that having a laser cutter would be a great bussines. I should think on doing some cad drawings from now on.

there's someone on the forum already making the cad drawings. But what it´s also important is that as the plan is not meant to scratch build the plane from zero, someone with a new kit should scan the formers, and some other parts that are difficult to measure on the plan.

ahhh Just got one from the "good old days".
Top quality balsa and pristine die-cutting.... ...this one must be almost 20 years old!!!
The smell of the "aged" wood... ...soooo nice!!!

The pictures posted 10/24/2010 are interesting.
The tail at one end and the engine made it all the way to the other end about 10 to 20 feet further right through the rafters.

J. Paul Saure,

Are you planning to present a build thread on your Ultimate plane ?

I've never done a build thread before... ...maybe I will!
However, I have to finish two projects first, I don't think I'll start until next year!!!
Anyway I'll use a Saito 125 I already have on a GP Extra300s (and the futaba 9001's and 9202 that it also has).

Saludos,
Jean Paul

Bigal, that's one of those incidents you couldn't pull off twice. Bummer it happened, but that is a cool crash, if there are any.

Right.

I'm building an Ultimate kit right now.

Only a few pieces in the wings are critical and need templates.
The ribs supporting the outboard struts (tabs) need to be copied, as well as any single rib.
The end cap ribs aren't critical.
Documenting the size and shape of the trailing edges and ailerons is fairly simple (I've built a dozen or so Ultimates and the poor cutting of these pieces has led me to cut fresh pieces from stock on my table saw).
The milled leading edges can be easily replaced with balsa square stock and shaped to contour with a sanding block.

The size, shape, and assembly of the pieces making the outboard struts needs almost 100% copying.

The fuselage has tons of pieces that need to be copied and carefully replicated.

All the formers.
A copy of a fuselage side and the wing saddle/gear doubler is necessary.
The bottom front and aft belly pieces.
Probably the most important piece of the whole kit is the thin, .031 ply turtledeck cutout.
The three balsa pieces that makeup the forward tank cover along with the cutouts for the cabane struts are important also.
There are other bits like the stab plate, the wing mounting pieces, and the metal stuff for the cabanes.

I'm documenting as much as possible.

Who can laser cut pieces?

I am sure that Tower has quite a few....  There is clearly a reason for this move on the part of the company, and I am sure there are other areas of the market that will fill this void.  Not to mention, if it was really a huge outrage, they could always bring it back.

How are you sure that Tower has any, let alone "quite a few"?

DustBen, What are the chances that your copied templates would be available to someone who only has a set of plans??
