The proper way to set the timing in all O.S. single-cylinder engines with the front camshaft is:

1) Rotate engine so that the piston is at Top Dead Center.

2) Locate the timing mark on the side of the cam gear.

3) Insert the cam gear so that the timing mark is in a direct line with the center of the cam followers and the centerline of the pushrods. It is NOT at a 90 degree angle to the crankshaft. The angle will be slightly back.

4) Replace the cam cover and you're ready to go!

For the rocker-arm-to-valve clearance, you need two feeler gauges: 0.04mm and 0.10mm. Rotate the engine so that one valve is fully-opened and set the other one. The thin feeler gauge should fit and the thick one should not. Rotate the engine until the valve you just set is fully-opened and set the remaining valve. That's it!

Thank you for the prompt reply,

Now its my fault,I may have negelected to ask for the correct information.

The engine I have is, o.s. sf 60 rear cam (circ 1967) Its old but it should be preserved if possible. It is in very good shape,so if I can find out the settings I will have running, and on a plane.

Thank you four tine and effort.
