Video acton at Seguin
I finally got a Sony HD Handycam, and Joel is my first (maybe last) victim. Nice camera, but dang the viewfinder is small. Motion Sickness Alert - this is my first vid and I've got a lot to learn. Doesn't help that Joel has the eyes of a hawk and flies waaaay out there.

Haha! Hasn't been so easy sometimes but I definately have the landing thing figured out on this one. It's a Tamjet with a super Rhino and a blast to fly. You can pull on it as hard you want it just grooves through it! Thanks for the video Bob...it doesn't look so easy filming these things.

Joel has a ton of flights on Bandits and BobCats, but this is his first scale airframe (how many flights are there in a ton?). Only 20 flights on the Hornet and he is nailing every landing - impressive!
Three straight days of perfect flying weather - 5 to 10 down the runway. Life doesn't get much better than that.

I re-edited the video of Joel's Hornet. A bit better quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY28-LnD2yg
Tom's F-22 including rudder flutter. Tom got it down with no drama. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqVu4W21Guo
Richard Evans of rcaviation.com has been shooting video at the field this summer. Here are a couple with more on his website.
Bob's 1/6 P200SX F-16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvfcIbAvA98
Rob's Talon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhEDF...eature=channel
It has been a good summer, but hell has relocated to central Texas for the month of August, as usual.

Here is a short vid of Rob's Talon. This is Karen's first video shoot and she did a pretty darned good job considering that I forgot to disable autofocus.

I managed to zap the F-16 program in my 12x, so no flying for me.
We also had a little show-and-tell.

Nice vids, Bob! [8D] And now we know why the F-22 has 2 rudders... (That's not a slam on Tom of course - the F-22 has huge rudders...)
And so it is official - you guys have to have a jet fly for us, so we can go to Seguin!
Also Bob, couldn't you make your newest model project a bit longer and pointier?

Rob put the first flights on his new Yellow F-15. He did a superb job of building, painting, and detailing this bird.
The first pic is of the 'Three Amigos': Rob, Joel, and Tom. No doubt they are analyzing the flight...or discussing which beverage to consume to celebrate the successful maiden.

RE: Video acton at Seguin
Bob - nice videos, and I love the high resolution on YouTube. A couple of tips from an old fart in this game:
Point your camera at something far away, let it focus on that point - and then, without moving anything else,
turn to manual focus. Now you will get anything from 5-6 feet away to infinity nice and sharp, even if the plane
is not in center of the viewfinder.
If you have a "real" viewfinder - the small one that you look into - use it, do not use the small screen on the
side, it's virtually impossible to see the plane in many light conditions.
Using the real viewfinder also allows you to zoom in on the model and still have control. When you get real
professional, try having one eye in the viewfinder and the other one open, tracking the moves of the model.
Finally - unless you use a tripod (which I never do as it's real hard to get that "flowing motion") - stand still,
parallel to the runway and only move your upper body for those nice, smooth shots.
The videos are already great - this will make them better! What program do you edit them in?

Thanks icepilot. Believe it or not, I try to do all the things you suggest, but it is difficult for me with the little handycam. I get a bit better as I practice, but I'm only shooting occasionally. The editing software is Windows Live Movie Maker that can be downloaded free for Windows 7. It isn't sophisticated, but that is a good thing for me!

RE: Video acton at Seguin
Bob,
Good job on the video. Its not easy to keep up with these birds in the air.
The F-15 was balanced as per the plans at 7 1/4" aft the leading edge of the wing. This position resulted in a very nose heavy airplane, needing almost full down elevator in the inverted position. Will check the CG again next weekend with 2 oz. lead added to the extreme tail of the airplane. Confirming this nose heavy position was the fact that she wanted to dig into the corners, losing altitude quickly. Will gradually keep adjusting the CG until inverted flight requires only some down elevator, not lots of it.
Pat, yes, its been some years since my last F-15. I think this one is going to be a real pleasure to fly, though it is quite difficult to see in a blue sky background. With hindsight, perhaps a brown camo scheme would have been a better choice. Oh well.
Regards,
Rob
