RE: What happened to the Scale Forum???
Check this out. There is more going on than just moving to a new server andprovider. Scroll down and read post 53 if the link does not go right there. It should. This is going on in the Jets forum.

It seems like RCU is going to be ran like ebay? Lets hope not. I really dont like selling or buying from them.

Don't want to speculate but hopefully not. it might also explain some of the hush-hush with this move. Don't know... Time will tell.

NOW WITH THE BUY SELL SITE DOWN IT MAKES ME WONDER WHAT THEY HAVE IN MIND. I BET WHEN IT COMES BACK UP THERE WILL BE QUITE THE CHANGE [ CAN YOU SAY NO FREE LISTING ] I KNOW I SHOULD NOT LOOK AT IT THIS WAY BUT A COMPANY THAT HAS JUST BOUGHT RCU IS GOING TO LOOK FOR ANY AND ALL WAYS TO MAKE A BUCK OR TWO... I DO HOPE THAT I AM WRONG

well it explains why the mods aren't modding now though.
i'm seeing things that would have been nixed in a matter of minutes are no longer being nixed.

RE: What happened to the Scale Forum???
I really only use the Scale Forum and don't use any of the other forums or features. So, for me, RCU is a pretty small and cosy place where I know most of the regulars. And I generally prefer how the software work (particular how photo uploads and display work) compared with sites like RC Groups, RCSB, or the German and Dutch forums I sometimes visit. RCU (or at least my little corner of the scale forum) is a bit more conversational than, say, RCSB, which is more like a compilation of building blogs. Many of the same people I "commune" with in the RCU Scale community are already regular posters on RCSB, so moving there ("full-time") wouldn't be much of a transition.
But I suspect that in terms of my little world here on RCU, very little will change. For the most part, most things are already back to how they were (except for that glitch in the multiple photo upload and display).

RE: What happened to the Scale Forum???
I haven't read through this entire thread but only the last few pages. Hopefully I can help with some fears here. Yes, we are having a few problems with the move to new servers. With a site as large as RCU is it's hard to make a move of this magnitude and not have problems. Unfortunately we hit a few snags that weren't expected, but the techs are working on the issues as fast as possible to resolve them.
As far as changes to RCU with the change of hands. One thing that was communicated to us from the start of this was that nothing RCU would change. IB does take over large Internet Communities such as RCU, but they do so in order to help their company overall. They realize that if a Community such as RCU is attractive to them it is that way for a reason, and that is because that Community is successful. When they acquire that community they realize to keep it profitable they need to leave it with what has made it successful in the first place. They prefer to leave as much in place as possible when taking over a community such as RCU. As such the moderators and administrators of RCU are still in place and no changes are planned to change that. I apologize if some forums seem to not be moderated, but the moderators have not gone anywhere. The problems from the move have left a lot of them hopping trying to document the bugs so that the IT staff can take care of them.
This move for RCU is actually a good thing as it will help position us better in the hobby than we were before. We'll get the bugs worked out pretty quickly and everything should get back to normal soon. I apologize for the difficulties that have happened.

RE: What happened to the Scale Forum???
I've used RCU extensively ... both in terms of the forums but more for the FOR SALE end of the business.
Right now there's nothing happening, or BEING ALLOWED TO HAPPEN, in FOR SALE......can't check out ads, my ads, my ratings, nada.
If there's a change coming that will involve an EBAY type payment I'll just slip over to another forum, as the price of selling items has already taken a severe hit due to the economy and I'm not in the mood to give away more to anyone.
Hopefully all this will pass but these days that's not often the case.
We'll just have to wait and see.

why do you think they will ad a fee
when you place an ad,on the RCUMarketplace ?
Even on ebay (..that's nowhere near RCU in terms of user friendliness )
they offer FREE insertions of auctions...[8D]

looks like revenu to be monitored just as well pretty soon, like EBAY, insert fees and sutch. I remember EBAY when it just started (free) and it grew over there head, they sold it and than became comercialized, and now they crank 13% out of you back. maybe
a bright side RC U Dollars ???
Was just a question of time i guess.
