One is weight and the other flexibility of the wire unless housed in a plastic guide tube that is firmly attached at both ends. But the key reason is that I guess I'm old school enough to remember when smart RC flyers minimized the length of any metal in their models so that things like pushrods would not detune the receiver. I guess old habits die hard.
