Hello All. Been quiet for a while now. Anyway, my pilot eventually arrived so nearly finished doing a bit of a kitbash on him. Haven't done much regarding the retracts or the new canopy and it won't get finished this side of Christmas. An enormous thank you to Red Falcon who helped me out big time with the pilot.
Seasons greetings to you all and keep up the good work. This is a fantastic thread and it is great to see everybody helping each other out.

Joe.

Hello Mogley. Apparently water based clear varnishes do work. The trick is you have to let it cure for a week or two. I've not tried this before, but maybe you could try a Google search.

I used Spectra satin fuel proofer, or Spectra matt clear, both work well, and come in handy 400ml spray cans at under £9 each

Been making progress with mine, slow though. Fitted the motor mount (MLD28) then started at the tail end while waiting for the cockpit kit from Tomas (this plus canopy arrived Monday).
Few changes to the stab, don't recall the locating dowels and template on my previous one, ditto for the wing. Used a Dubart pull pull for the elevator and rudder, was never happy with the supplied wire on the previous one.

Only two hinges on the rudder instead of three, no matter as I am tossing the supplied hinges in favour of (3) Robarts. Will use the Dubro semi scale tailwheel off the old one with the same linkage arrangement - worked last time!

Once I finish with the *rse end will fit the cockpit kit, be interesting to see how Ty's kit compares to the Dynamic Balsa one that I put in the last one. U tube instructions are cool, but it would be nice to have something printed to refer to in the workshop. The cockpit was a real pain to fit and I thought about giving it a miss this time, but it looked sooooo good when finished. Anyway, looks like it's going to rain here for the next 6 months (and remember it's our SUMMER) so I have planty of time.

hey folks, I swapped out my aerovate 26 for a rear carb DL-30.

I have it all mounted and pretty much ready to go. The mounting pattern was almost the same.

What spinners are you guys using with the DL-30? I have a spinner form Skyshark, but it looks like I need a really long spinner bolt.

I have seen others here with spinners that have screws around the outside.

What do you all recommend?

Additionally, I would like to sometime move to a three blade prop. Same questions - can you recommend a spinner, and prop source?

thanks!

Bill
I got both my spinners from Skyshark, the one for their D9. Both two and three bladed. I'm using an OS120AX and called Tru Turn and got their bolt/nut for the engine.

Hi Guys,

I've read this thread from start to finish so thought I may as well make my first post here. I bought the ESM 190 a couple of months ago, found this thread to be very helpful with construction and hardware tips. I started my own build thread on my clubs website here. Progress has been slower that expected and now we're heading into the silly season it won't be getting any faster! I see many of you are dead keen on petrol engines for the FW, I went the glow path with an ASP160 twin just for the lovely noise it makes. Will probably be regretting that once I'm using litres of fuel each weekend!

Cheers,

C8

C8, is it going to balance out without a ton of weight on the nose with that twin? Looks nice!

yeah he should be ok, I have an OS-200 in mine, with the exhaust, they weigh a little less than the ASP-160 I think? I only have around 300g of lead in my nose and she flies well

Got the tail end finished on mine (just need final hook up of the rudder pull-pull) but not much else. Next step is to cut a bl**dy great hole for the cockpit kit, even though it's second time around will approach with some trepidation!! Spinner is on the way from YTI in the UK.

I know what you mean Terry. Measure twice and cut once. Kinda hard to take a brand new plane out of the box and start carving big chunks out of it with the dremel. Sourced my spinner from YT as well. Looks the goods on the front end.

The ASP 160 comes in at 1.2kg and I'm using 45mm spacers so that should help the balancing. I'll try to move the batteries and servo's as far forward as I can and then see where the CG ends up. I'm not sure what a DLE 30 weighs in comparison but if I have to add lead then so be it!

Stick Mode, I'm using the Dubro tail wheel for 60-120 size aircraft. Cat No.957. Its about the same size as the one in the kit, but has a much more scale look about it. The spinner I bought from YT international in the UK. It cost about $65 Australian dollars delivered (41.50 UK pounds). Its all aluminium and pretty rugged. I've yet to cut the slots in for the prop blades.

I'll try to post a pic of them.

Hello everyone. Haven't posted on here in a while, been busy with work and haven't had time to get to my FW in weeks. Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a Happy Holiday. Thanks for everyone's help here. You're a great bunch.

Well ive finally got fed up with the Os200 and repaced it with a DLE30 rear carb,no matter what mixture setting i had the Os would not run properly,i have heard other people complaining about them (mine is the pumped version),so its going on ebay.Just waiting for some decent weather to fly it with the new engine.

I switched to a DL-30 as well. Too much snow to run it just yet. I have high hopes for performance.

If it flies like I expect, then I may get a Ty's planes cockpit. I already have a pilot.

Can anyone say if the CG shifts a lot after you install the cockpit and pilot?

Nice to see guys going with the DLE30. Mine still runs like dream!

CG shift, none from mine but I only installed the pilot. Dont expect anything big man as the add ons dont weigh that much

Sorry to hear of your problems Ian, I find my OS200 to be fantastic in this model, but I have heard of people having a few power/rpm problems?
I have had to adjust the valve clearances a couple of months ago, they were quite large, and reducing them to 0.1mm has made it run even better.
I really do prefer a 4 stroke in a warbird, it sounds better, and mine turns a 20x8 prop at 7300 to pull this 17lb warbird vertical if needed.
A radial of course would be best option one day, we will see lol

I don't have the pumped version though, run it with an on board glow system (glow comes on at less then 25% throttle) with a keleo creations Exhausts and use Optifuel 20% 4 stroke mix, so not sure whether that helps, or I am just lucky lol

it is a very thristy engine though (can't best petrol engines for that) I have had to increase the fuel tank to 24oz (700cc) to give a few more mins in the air, as was getting about 10mins on std tank

anyway, not flown since new tank, due to crap weather here

Have fun you all....and..................
