Default TRAXXAS SPARTAN shipping

I am really looking forward to getting the traxxas spartan in the summer of 2011. I have noticed it has been delayed several times and still has not been released yet. I am wondering what are the issues with that. Also, It is quite expensive, most of the boats at horizon hobby include free ground shipping. Will that free shipping ship to canada? or will i need to pay more for shipping?

You will pay more for shipping or check and see what a local shop might charge for one when they get one.

When it happens, it happens. Sometimes good things are worth waiting for. I am waiting for it to come out too. I want one but I will wait for some user reports to come out first.

Delay delay delay..........
I think Traxxas may have bitten off more than they knew to, and having to keep going back to the drawing board...

Put my hands on one in a hobby shop today.....and promptly turned the other direction. Hull feels like it's built out of something just weaker than a coke bottle..

So the hull is still plastic? I heard a rumour they were going to go with glass.

Details? Did you stick aroung long enough to look at it any more? Have you owned either a Villain or nitro V, how does it compare? Or ny other "plastic" boats?

I think the plastic will hold up
but 50mph in these cold lakes now, I'm not sure what could happen
I hear they have a warranty on the hull [:-]

I got a pretty good look at it. The hull is a very thin fairly brittle plastic. Several of us(a couple of experienced boat guys included, I'm newer to boats) looked at it. My impressions where:

Hull is thin, a good wake slap and I think you will see cracking. Forward of the main compartment the boat has a large cut Styrofoam block that appears to run all the way to to nose.

Electronics- looks like a larger version of the standard vxl and appears to have a water jacket on it, not integrated into the motor.

Running gear looked like nice quality aluminum pieces, minimal slop.

no battery trays, batts are held down with hook and loop.

I was just disappointed in the feel of the hull. Even my little aquacraft hull feels tougher than this one. It may very well prove me wrong, but the consensus at the shop is...meh. Even the owner doesn't plan to stock anymore once these two are gone....

I can get pics fro y'all if you want some, she'll probably have at least one for a bit.

**edit I've never owned a villain but did mod one for a brushless motor for a friend not long ago. I'd say the villains hull FEELS tougher at minimum

I stopped in my local hobby shop yesterday. They did not have any in stock yet. In fact they will not be ordering any in until March. All the water is hard here so RC boats are not selling well at this time. BTW, they will be pricing them at $389.00. I am waiting patiently for the first user reports.

yep at 389 im glad i got ms geico. Only thing i can say i like about the spartan is how big that motor looks, and it seems like with everything centered the balance/ stability should be good, still don't know how it would compare to my cat though, really diggin the catamaran hull style vs my mono. Is that the price with nihm batts and everything? if so i guess that isn't too bad for a rtr with batts

My Blackjack 26 was $299 so this is a little more. If perceptions from the video play out this look like it will be a fast boat. I want more speed in my next boat.

I wonder if the hull just feels thinner because it is much longer then a Villain or a V.  But I would assume they would have beefed it up for the extra lenght and speed they are going for.

a 50mph hull is very different from a 20mph hull.

I've been looking at that one too. Plenty of time to make a decision.
