Flywheel, Heavy vs lite
I am running a os 81 marine on a 36' AEROMARINE CAT.
I am having starting problems [under powered belt starter]
I was wondering about changing to heavier flywheel on the engine.
I have a steel one that will replace the aluminum one.
I thought the heavier one would help spin start better.
Have added weight to electricstarter pulley to help pull thru comppresion.
I realize I will be sacraficing acceleration.
I was wondering the pros and cons.?
Thanks
ps I don't race
Having this much fun must be ilegal

boatnut , I've heard of guys bringing a propane torch. They heat the top before starting. Or look for a heavy duty starter. 24 volt is best. I've got a .12 NIB Nova Rossi that's giving me problems on the start-up. I put her away for the winter. Once broken in no problems. Keep on it.

Keep the current flywheel ... And switch over to 24 volts like everyone says ..... Switching over flywheels could be more of a headache in the long run if not balanced properly ....
