Ya know, I wouldn't really mind if we got snow, instead of the ice we always get.
I've been in Chicago, Idaho, New York, etc in the winter and if it wasn't for the clouds ALL the time it wouldn't have been so bad.
Think I just stay down here and put up with the heat.

hey gary, i lived in tx most of my life, there were several winters it never got below freezing. i agree, i'll stay down here and put up with the heat. we are having another mild winter here again.

Hi guys
Its -18C which i your terms it 0F,its not so bad.
The sun is shining and there is very little wind,so its a nice day.
It snowed a little last night so ill go and move AGAIN.
We used to spend most of the winter in AZ,Apache Junction area,and fly RC monday to friday.
Time to move the white stuff.

It almost started melting down here this week, kinda nice break. It will be going back down as this next front passes.
I agree with Hepdog, winter is for flying AND building. I don't however have any pictures of my plane on skiis. I guess I can't get a camera operator(read "the wife") out to take a few. Heck it only has wheels for spring and fall. Floats or skiis the rest of the year.
I am approaching the maiden for a quarter scale Cub so I will do it on skiis. Still working on the Ju-52 but needs glass and paint where the temp in the unheated garage will not work. Thinking of starting a small 40 sized stick fused seaplane, or a Cessna Skymaster with a 6 foot WS. Company just called, said to stay home, they needed my trip for training purposes. So I can build, and get paid for it!
Question. When it is -40 how do you start a glow engine? They can get cantankerous when the temps drop. I don't fly too much this time of year, but when I do I use a small torch to warm (not too hot) the cylinder so fuel will vaporize and ignite.

The temp here in Winnipeg right now is -33C which is about -25F you temp.
In the past we didnt fly if it got colder than 0-F your temp.
Usually we didnt have to use any assistance to start out glow engine,we just kept them in a heated car or truck till we wanted to fly.
Im finishing up a T28 trjan 6 foot span ,scratch built.also ive got plans for a buffalo and a b25 that i will start some time this year.got to go.

There the SPOOk in I bank turn for final approach, this 96"span hi wing old timer style plane is power by électric astro 60 motor with 32 cells. batts. and turn 22X14 prop and have 20 minutes of fun snow flying touth and go!!

After 37 years in the hobby, I finnaly got my 8 x 20 cargo trailer. Just happened to be delivered on Valentines day! Thank you sweetheart.
Gave me a big kick in the pants to fill it with some of those larger models that I have started.
Soon have a 1/3 pitts special , Saito 270 to park in the middle.
All excited like a young bride in her first new home!
Next week going out to pick up my 11 year old 1/4 scale cub. It now has a home at home. My flying buddy has winter stored it for me a few seasons
I did scratch a 3 meter glider wing for my electric assist glider fuse.
Gave me a big kick in the pants to fill it with some of those larger models that I have started.

I should move to Canada , I spend my winters driveing my kids to the Ice Hockey Rink and coaching , if I lived up there they could walk
and I could spend more time building lol

Hi Don , that is a great area , we played at the Kitchner Rangers Rink , it was a ball !!!!
Great memories , went to visit a brewery , Kitchner Stick factory ect .
You can really see why winter in Canada spurs nice warm nights of building .
Last year we played in NewMarket , even found a hobby Shop there !!!

New Years Day 2011 -6C 21F in BC, Canada. More people were there than shown in the link. These are just initial phone/camera pics.
Even a turbine but no skis on it.

Annual event. I had to pack the road with the 4x4 a week before and do a little shoveling. 18 people showed up for flying Chili, Hot Chocolate. It was worth it!
