Scarab Time Capsule Build\need help
I recently picked up a 40" Scarab (Dumas) with a .46 KB engine, flexible drive shaft, and outdrive assembly. I also have a Futaba 75 MHZ FM radio system with servos. This is all N.O.S. and had been sitting around since about 1988 waiting for assembly. I've done a couple of RC airplane builds, so I'm somewhat familiar with glow engines, servos and the like. The thing is; I don't know how these things are supposed to be set up. The big thing thing is; how to mount the engine and get the flexible drive shaft through the hull in a manner that won't send this thing to Davy Jone's locker.
I've added a few pics (i hope) to show better what I have to work with. Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me.

Looks Like a good find This old paperback pic still is still the norm. a few degrees off you'll still be OK There are 2 CoG left & right. front /back just keep everything equal from the center-line.of the hull.

RE: Scarab Time Capsule Build\need help
I was hoping for some pictures of how these nitro boats are assembled and set up. I found a basic diagram here: http://www.rc-airplane-world.com/running-hardware.html. From the look of it, the big brass tube with the cupped end is what is called a "stuffing box", and this has to be put through the hull and glassed in. The flexible drive shaft then goes through the stuffing box, and the stuffing box then gets filled with grease or maybe epoxy to keep it water-tight. Still, I don't know how the engine is mounted inside the hull, or other details. Again, I'm an airplane guy who's doing his first rc boat.
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks Mike, those pictures are great! It looks like everything I need to get this boat going. Also, I called Dumas a couple of days ago. Surprisingly, even though the boat has not been produced for about 25 years, they had a manual and parts list available. They should be here in a day or two. After that, I'll get the build started. Thanks again Mike!
