RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
I don't know how many flights I have on mine, probably in the range of 25+. One of mine broke on the first or second flight, but that wasn't the same issue as I've seen here. On mine the strut pulled out of the mount, which was intact. Not to say that I won't have a mount break tomorrow, though....
I'm wondering if the "mount-break" failure is endemic to those who are using the gas engines due to greater vibration? Or are some of those breaks on glow-powerd planes as well.

Speaking for myself I am sure it was some hard landings on my part... not overly but hard all the same. I am a builder and working at being a better flyer I need to spend more time at the field where I need to practice.

Looking at all these posts it seems to be common.Just fitting an asp 160 to a friends tc,gentle engine to bench run and should suit the aeroplane well.

They look and sound nice too, even the cheaper asp160.Will be flying mine with the 182 tomorrow morning. Now that the engine is leaned out it swings an 18x6mas at 9000 and has great power for aerobatics, you can tip stall these things if you try hard enough

Common OLD FART, get some batteries for that camera. I am trying to decide between the 160 twin and the 182 twin. Your pics would help. If you need, give me your mailing address and I will ship you some camera batteries. LOL

agreed with the fit on the 160 twin - but you'll need to take your time in the engine mounting - 1/4 -3/8" clear each side.

Sorry les no pics at the moment. The 160 is easier to fit and much cheaper as well.Have flown this combo for a friend and it has good aerobatic performance but it's definitely not as pokey as mine with the 182.We are also having issues with the 160 holding a good tune in the air,it keeps leaning out so will look at the main needle seal and the rear carb one also.

For just about any float setup, the step should be underneath the c/g. You have a little lattitude front to rear, but not much. The floats should be parallel to the wing. Be prepared to add a little nose weight as the floats usually move the balance point aft. Also, you will need a water rudder.
Have fun!

Marty: I am putting the H9 one fourth floats on the H9 20 Taylorcraft. Any help on the placement of the floats would be appreciated.

Is anybody running the TC with a DLE 20? If so did you have to add weight to the front to get CG?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Hi Guys,
Long time between chats, it's been 12 months now since I started my build and I'm 98% of the way there. Have the nav lights almost sorted, the cockpit is finished, radio almost sorted, the engine is running Soooo Sweeeeetly.... it idles at a a really slow tick over and sounds wonderful flat out, there is a real throaty sound to the exhaust with the new muffler. I will post a complete photo profile of the mods and finished plane complete with registration number and extra decals. The rea reason for the post is I came across these photos of the earlier model Taylor with a set of floats attached, you can see the neat job the builder has done and also the position, from what was written it flew very well, here's a link if you're interested?

Well keep waitin.Flew it three weeks ago and got a stuck wide open throttle three minutes in.I always thought a 24oz tank was overkill and landed 19 minutes later after a lean run at the end.The old 182 has fried it's plugs and remote glow leads got to hot.Bearings are fine will check valve clearances and re-plug it,hows yours?
