RE: Aquacraft Mini Rio - Brushless
I can tell you what I did for awhile before ordering my brushless motor... I ran 2s 1550mah lipos on the stock motor and esc... Boat was really quick and planed without straining but I had to modify a few things. 1.) remove the water pick-up... more drag in the water and its practically worthless on the stock motor. 2.) remove the second rudder on the left side of the boat (the one opposite the servo side) Now, it won't turn quite as sharp, but it really makes a difference having less drag in the water. It was almost fast enough for me like that, but I really want to get ballistic... so I ordered the 2700kv brushless and a 30 amp esc, just waiting on that slow chinese shipping...
oh and one last thing, the motor and esc get hot with those lipos, I never burned anything up, but don't run packs back to back... I would run like 10 minutes, then let it cool, then run again. It only takes about 10 minutes to cool anyway so its not a long wait!
and lastly, here is what I ordered, after doing some research through some other forums,
I also ordered a single rudder with water pick-up to replace what's left of the stock rudder... I also still have to order a water-cooling jacket for it though, most likely this one
anyway, I'll check back and keep you updated with how this build goes... good luck

Here is video of my ex Mini Rio that my brother in law modified with cheap brushless system.
Speed is quite nice, but that hull is just not designed for high speed.

Speed is almost same as my Offshore Warrior.
It is also very difficult to adjust the COG with small and shallow hull like Mini Rio... Not possible to move components more than fem millimeters :-D
