Traction?
How do i get better traction on my bandit vxl? ive got a 9.6v nimh and i cant even go from 3/4 throttle to full without spinning the tires. im running soft compound dirthawgs. would it be better in the summer since the hot pavement? its -17 in new york so im sure the roads are cold lol

RE: Traction?
the problem is too much power for the conditions,
maybe pull out a 6 cell pack until conditions improve
you could also mess with gearing or the slipper to reduce power delivery but both of those are less than optimal options

RE: Traction?
yea. ive got a 7 cell lying around. but i love more power and torque. maybe ill just put it up for the winter. besides i hate cleaning snow and having frozen shocks. maybe warmer weather will give more grip. plus there is always the option to run on grass as well as pavement. the funny thing is with this new battery is still wont wheelie. it just spins the tires. i want to wheelie

RE: Traction?
removing preload from the rear doesn't really soften the suspension, but it'll sit lower to start and make it easier to pull wheelies

RE: Traction?
i still dont know how im gonna do wheelies. i understand what you guys are saying. a softer rear will make it squat when i hit the throttle. but all it does is just spin the tires. maybe some dirt paws in the grass it will really wheelie. it did it with my old 7 cell nimh just tapping the throttle.

RE: Traction?
if there's not enough traction it just won't happen
but if the pavement's dry it shouldn't be a problem
wheelies in the grass with a buggy are going to be tough no matter what you do

RE: Traction?
Softer compund on your tires/inserts, stronger (torquier) motor, higher output battery and if those dont help, and you STILL have poor traction issues, treat them tires to soften em up, itll work, but youll see a shorter lifespan with em.

RE: Traction?
Dirt Hawgs don't come in a soft compound, they're pretty hard. To have something that actually resembles traction, you're going to want to go with M3-or-equivalent compound tires.

RE: Traction?
so kinda like street tires so to speak?? i was actually doing wheelies with my buggy in grass. i had dirt paws on the rear. and idk how much more torque i can get...ive got the velineon, 9.6v nimh and its too much torque. im not interested in a lipo. ill just do some different setups and see my results. trial and error is the best way to figure out an issue.

RE: Traction?
you may actually be hurting your wheelie cause with that heavy nimh pack
a lipo doesn't just make it easier to do wheelies because of the power delivery, it's also much lighter

A little trick we all out here use to soften our tires and increase traction for racing? Well, our LHS/ indoor HP clay track wont let us use marinades or compounds trackside due to fumes, the only thing we can use THERE is Sticky Kicks (which suck) so we cover our tires with Simple Green, stuff em in a 1-gal ziplock bag for about 24 hours, and voila, soft sticky tires!!! I had even did this to our stock Slash and Blitz sets and it made em worlds better.

I think softening the suspension makes it harder to wheelie cause the suspension soaks up the rear end rather than going straight up.

RE: Traction?
well i checked my suspension. its stiff, but not it still absorbs the bumps. but i still am having the same problem... cant get traction at all. too much torque. idk. i think ill just put it up for the winter. my front end freezer up and there is no arm movement at 0 degrees lol. ill try in the spring. plus a 2wd low profile buggy isnt a snow king lol. but thanks for all the help guys. ill try different setups when the time comes.

RE: Traction?

RE: Traction?
Well the main problem is that it is a traxxas and traxxas does not give you the option to add rear toe in also it's not long enough.
I had the same problem with my rustler vxl it would only wheelie's and 360's uncontrollably. I sold the rustler and put the vxl in my blitz and it runs strait and handles well.

RE: Traction?
Take a classic muscle car for example: build the engine up with massive amounts of power and try to take off in a straight line without loosing control when you mash the throttle at a stop light drag race.
Some ESCs and radio systems have adjustable power curves to tame instant burst of torque durring acceleration. Otherwise, properly adjusting your slipper is a quick aid that usually helps more than it hinders.
