Figured out my problem these retract draw 900mA under load and 5mA idle my flight pack was only a 500mA pack wasnt enough punch for the whole system when up and runnin dropped in a Nickel Metal Hydrid at 2000mA and solved the problem the retracts are just power hungry is all !

It depends on what engine and battery pack you are using. I would assemble it first and then see if you need to add weight. Most are using 5.25 for CG

Hay Airwizard,
I've had no trouble with my tail wheel steering...and I do believe your the first one to report any problems with this. You may have issues with yours, but your the first...so I wouldn't jerk the tail wheel so hard, yet. We have several in our club, and none have had issues with the tail wheel steering.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

Bobby
I got the information on what to order off this thread as a couple of posters have had issues with the steering arm breaking.
Thanks for your comments.

Hi all,
I know that this kit has been out for a while but I figured what the heck I might as well contribute......
My wife got this for me for Christmas and I must admit I was a very happy camper
I built the kit about 12 years ago and flew it with a YS 1.20 and it was a dream to fly. I'll see if I can find a picture of it and post it. I finished it in the Hurry Home Honey scheme (I guess TF liked my color scheme as they chose it for their ARF version). So with that said once I got a hold of this, I wanted to do it up in a different color scheme and detail it a bit.
I am going to go with electric so the details are as follows:
Rimfire 1.20
Castle ICE 75amp esc
2x3cell 5000 mah batteriers in series for 22v
So far I spent one whole day peeling off the Monocote and I mean a WHOLE day. Tonight I cut out the "secret battery hatch" which was a real job, but it came out in one piece. I sanded it down and fileed in the gaps with epoxy and micro balloons and will leave it sit over night, once it's dry I can sand it and should have a pretty tight fit on the hatch.
Oh, as it stands right now I plan on doing it up as Lt. Urban Drew's Detroit Miss, I think it;s a cool scheme and he was quite the pilot 6 kills with 2 ME 262's in one mission.....
Here's some pictures

Suggest you read early posts, regarding how servos are orientated so that no reversing is necessary.

I got the retractable tailwheel installed, I had to relocate the elevator servo to the tail as the tube for the elevator rod was right where the retract unit had to go, actually it should be a great hook up with a short straight rod from the servo to the elevator horn.
I am planing on cutting the old elevator tube back a a couple of inches and using it to hook the servo up to the retract unit to actuate it. I will run some pull/pull cables for tailwheel steering. And yes I know that it retracts in the wrong direction, but that's the only way the Robart unit that I had would work, so oh well.....

Just getting a retract in a 60 size in the tail is hard enough! Good work!

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
Folks,
Working on building number 2. Number 1 always had a horrible tendancy to climb like crazy with increased throttle. On building this one, should the incidence of the wing and the horizontal stab be the same? Right now the horizontal stab is -1.2 with it being inverted. If it should be the same, I have some sanding to do in the horizontal stab saddle.
Will also make sure I have some down thrust.
Thanks!
Dave

I built the kit years ago, so I pulled and I checked the plans, the plans show the stab at 0' and the wing at +1/2'. I'm not sure if this would translate into the ARF but in compairing my ARF fuse looks pretty close to the plans. Hope this helps.....

Thanks! Was just trying to make sure the incidence was proper before gluing in the horizontal stab. Really want to avoid the climbing problem on this one. I believe others had this problem earlier in the thread.

There is nothing wrong with changing incidences to correct flight problems. Pure and simple the tail does not do an adequate job of stopping the positive pitching moment of the wing, thus causing the climb with speed. If I had to do mine over, I would include a degree or two of down thrust in the engine, and maybe another 1/2-3/4 degree postive in the stab in relation to the wing. I did add down thrust after I flew mine and that got rid of most of the climbing at speed, along with copius amounts of down trim.

Hi all,
I have been making slow but steady progress I re-did the instrument panel, nothing looks worse to me than a Musting with a round instrument pnl, so I made one that looks a little more scale. The rails on the cockpit sides will be the mounts for a sliding canopy that I'm working on. More details to follow, first time adding one, so I figured worst case all I'll have to do is buy a new canopy if I screw it up

The EFlites' are working out great on my P-51. Go back to page 64 and read post #1587.
