Cox Thimble Drome Lil' Stinker Red and White Biplane
I have a beautiful brand new vintage Cox Lil' Stinker. Last appraised 1997. What is your value guess for today? New in box (never removed). Original instructions. Box is in perfect condition. The Lil' Stinker sticker on the side. Would love to know what you think.

Trying to arrive at what a market value of an item is at any given time is almost impossible due to many varibles and unknowns.
If you know what you need for it then the RCU Marketplace is a great place to put it.. IMHO.
If you don't really know, then that big auction site is always there.
Please post which one you do so that we will know.
Personally, I'd like a crack at it, which ever way you decide to go, to replace the one I got for Christmas 1958 and that my Mother gave to my cousin when I went away to the USAF.

Safe bet is around $200. You could probably get upwards of $300 depending upon where it is listed for sale, exposure, and ability to attract collectors who are willing to pay big $$$.
Best of luck if you try to sell it!
Regards, Matt.

Thanks. I would like to sell it for 700.00. That is the price that Cox International suggested that I post on it. Are you interested?

$700 is the upper collector price and I don't think you will see it very often, unless some collectors battle it out on Ebay on some special day.
I think the Cox 50th anniversary gold metallized Pitts have been going in the $200 range on Ebay...unlikely the original red/white version would sell for 3.5 times that.
Skylane 42's kit collector price guide lists it at $325, which is usually a recent auction price recorded for the item.
You are most likely to get close to the current collector value if you sell on Ebay.

No Thanks at $700...
Have watched the Lil' Stinker eBay market fairly well over the last several years and my observations are in the same dollar range as Matt and Thomas B.
If I were you I'd give the auction a whirl and who knows maybe you'll land some big dollars.
Good Luck.....

Yeah, I would agree with Steve and Thomas B.
It is a great piece given the pristine condition of the model, but I have seen other new in box planes that were more collectible sell for a little less than $700.
The auction route is probably where you would max out, but do not forget the fees you would incur with eBay and PayPal.
Best of Luck!
Matt.

Thanks you guys. 365 was the last price in 97. Thought it would have gone up. My husband wants me to put it on ebay and I needed to get a good idea of value for today. I'm going to list it for 450 and see what I get for it. Thanks again.

Hi Steve. I listed the Lil' Stinker on Ebay starting at $450. I hope that you can replace the one that was lost to you.
Thanks,
Toni

Hi Toni,
eBay is definitely the place to sell and you might consider the best offer option as well, as I don’t see it bringing $450, mid to upper $300’s is about what they’re bringing...but that’s subject to chance if you get a couple people fighting over it. It seems the prices for plastic RTF’s have not really changed much in the last 4-5 years.
Good luck,
Mark

Thanks Mark. My heart tells me that if I don't get the amount that I want for it then I will put it away for another 5 years. Some of the planes have sold for $2000. I love the Lil' Stinker, so I believe that it should be worth as much! lol
Best Regards,
Toni

Don't forget Toni that plastic naturally deteriorates with age. This is especially true of the plastic of the 1950's. Can you be sure that your Lil' Stinker isn't riddled with cracks already?
I'm constantly amazed by the amounts of money people expect for what is really junk. This is especially true for Cox junk!
For god's sake sell it for whatever you can get for it now!

Nostalgia is what drives the price. In five years there won't be many men left that feel nostalgic about the old Cox planes.

I checked it over and I don't see any cracks at all. I will take that into consideration regarding nostalgia. I believe that to be true. Thank you.

Toni,
Cracks usually come into play with the storage of the item. Temperature extremes play a large role in this. I assume you kept the item in very good storage conditions, so this shouldn't be an issue.
Good luck with the sale!
