Default FTL26 gas engines or XY26 experiences?

Have any of you guys tried the FTL26 or XY26 gas engines?

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...0&ParentCat=55

I have a KMP Tigercat that I'm trying to decide on the engines for. I was looking at the SPE 26 but I found these ones tonight, they are super cheap, what is the quality like? Are they reliable? I don't need the most super powerful 26's on the market, but they will be going in a twin so reliability is essential.
Thanks in advance!

Jeremy

They're the same as the SPE26 you mean? I've heard the SPE26's are pretty decent, I just want to make sure the reliability is good

that's what I know. all 26CC if yo are looking are use same cylinder with fin on the top. that's same parts they use ,just make different cankcase. other different is the carb and ignition system. but the engnin parts are same. interchangeable.

I've been running one (FTL 26) in an old Hanger 9 CAP 232 (25%) for two months now. I'm new to Gas engines and have been fumbling with correct carb settings and correct size prop. I think I have things lined up now. I'm running a 17x6 prop and getting decent power out of this new engine, I have only run one gallon of fuel through it.
In fact I just bought another to put in a Goldberg 10-300 Bipe. This motor only weighs about two pounds.
Construction is good, except for that large/ugly muffler. Virtually NO instructions, so you need to rely on this forum for any help or insite.

I just bought one of these from hobbycity. I put it on a goldberg 10-300 Bipe with modified wings (larger wing span). Total the plane weighs 12 pounds, 14 oz. The engine flies the plane OK, but I can only get about 7300 RPM's out of it right now. By no means is the engine broken in by now. I'm still running a rich mixture. Any adjustments on the carb yield no improvement. I'm hopeing time and leaner mixture will increase my RPM's.

Anyone else have any expreiences with this motor?

these engines are no power houses-I doubt you will ever get anymore than what you have now other than maybe lean the engine a little and pick up a little but it will not be substantial in my experience-these engines are not performance engines like the DA, 3W but they cost no where near that either. Good Luck

Where engines engines are concerned, and in particular most of the current relatively cheap to purchase chinese made units, there are no free rides and you get exactly what you pay for. If you need the reliability normally required for successfully flying a twin I suggest you look for engines with some sort of track record.

A DLE 20 or Zenoah G20 would possibly be a very good choice of gas power for that model.

Very true!!!
This is probably one of the best pieces of advice I have seen a long time.
G20 or G26 will perform at least we well and give years of reliable service

I ran one with a 100 saito and it had lots of power... But I also like the gas alternatives mentioned here already, as I have 2 gassers myself and love the reliability and it's also a lot easier on the pocket book when it comes to fuel. And even some of the gas engines are much cheaper than the four strokers..

I have an FTL 26, it's not the most powerful 26, but it runs very, very smooth.

I had an FTL 26 and was VERY dissapointed in it's performance. Could never get the RPM's that it boasted. I traded it for a saito 150 which blows it away.

But I DO have an FTL 45 that is a POWER house! So weird two motors made by the same company would perform so differently...
