Will the J'TEC Wrap Around Pitts Muffler DL50/55 fit in the cowling with out having to cut any reliefs for it? This is not the Jtec muffler that is listed for the P51/P47.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
I Picked-up my GS Top Flite P-40 over the weekend and there is a problem with the wings. How straight is the trailing edge on the planes delivered so far? Both wings have a pronounced "warp" in the trailing edge section. The left side is so bad that the flap will not fit flush to the bottom of the wing (on either end) and the trailing edge looks like the rolling hills of KY! The right side is pretty bad as well. I hate to recover the wings and try to repair this problem. A new wing set will cost $230 plus shipping from Tower. They are out of stock until April as well? How straight are your wing T/E on the GS P-40's out there so far? Anyone else having the same issue? This can't be "normal" or is Top Flite having a QC problem? I purchased the plane on RCU (NIB) and not sure if Top Flite will cover this under warranty since I am not the original buyer? I hope Top Flite will honor this under warranty regardless of who the original purchaser was? I was hoping for a nice Giant Scale project for this flying season but now I have to repair the wings and this plane just became a "major reconstruction project." Not what I would consider an "ARF." How about a nice flat piece of slate for the China factory! I can't complete this plane "as-is" and try to fly it with the wing issues. I think It will have a major saftey issue. What do you guy's think?

Louies situation is an isolated incident. If you should have this problem you can contact Top Flite product support and we will work to correct the situation as I did with him. This is our standard procedure for any problem that occurs with any product.

Maiden Report:
Set Up: DA 50-R with a 22X10 Xoar Warbird prop.
Servos: 645MG & 5645MGs....
Retracts: Robarts for this plane (but the heavy duty version) - ordered directly from Robart.....converted to electric by Down & Locked (awesome!!!!!).....
Redundant Systems on certain things (i.e. elevator)
Smart Fly system installed.......
BECs from Castle....
Maiden was awesome.......lifts off ground in 20 feet or so. I had a very seasoned friend fly it on first flight. Landed with 1/2 flaps, and she slows right down. We did an experiment and made final approach w/o flaps. Plane likes flaps....without flaps P-40 was coming in hot. Be very careful to now get too slow on final approach.......you will see the plane start to wallow (up & down).....add some power. We also tested stalls at a higher altitude.......gets kind of mushy, but she will roll over on you....add power & pull out of it......I personally do not see that I will ever go this slow (except landing). The "rollover", however, would take the plane out if it were to happen on final approach. We just added speed when it would start wallowing. I will say that this plane will land quite slow....just not too slow.
This is one awesome bird.
Pics to follow.......friend did an absolutely awesome job of weathering this plane. Looks fantastic.
More to come!!

Above is the pilot that I used...works well. I also wanted to show a picture where the panel lines are obvious. I wish everyone luck on their maidens.

Also, could you explain a little further on the weathering on what was used.
Paint, panel line pin, etc.....
Very well done.

Just picked this plane up and starting to work on the assembly. The one wing is a little wavey on the trailing edge but the flap is not to bad. Was curious to what approaches folks were using to fix this?
akleader, I would also like to know how you did the weathering, looks great!

Will the J'TEC Wrap Around Pitts Muffler DL50/55 fit in the cowling with out having to cut any reliefs for it? This is not the Jtec muffler that is listed for the P51/P47.

I am not sure which JTEC muffler is being asked about, but the one that Tower lists with the P40 has plenty of room on the sides.

There is NOT the JTEC specifically for the P-51 that has a tapered front. This is the regular pitts. If you go by price then the one that is $89.99. I'm looking at the regular one because the can diameter is 2" versue the 1.5" on the other muffler. Slightly less noise and I would like the lowest noise footprint possible.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
Just finishing up the Top-Flite P-40. Another great plane produced by Top-Flite. Very well done and very easy to assemble. Using the robart gear with retractable tail wheel and a DLE 55 swinging a Xoar 22x10 prop. Needed 2.5 ounces in the tail to balance at the recommended cg. Thanks to Capt G for his help in doing the panel lines and some light weathering. A few pictures of the finished product. Maiden will be soon.
