One hundred magnet's and the plywood upright's are square and can hold withdown force.
The metal is 1/8th galvanized. It's not fasened, so I can remove it and add a longer top.
And the refridgerator magnet's are used for removable hatche's and such.

RE: WACO YMF
John,
There is a website that has information on how to built a magnetic building system and sources for the magnets. I don't have the website right now as I am on the road but if you are interested let me know and I will look it up when I get home and post it here. Alternatively someone else here might know the site.
edit - I just did a google search and the website for the magnetic building system I built is http://www.airfieldmodels.com/. He sells the fixtures or if you want to build your own. If you go to his page at http://www.airfieldmodels.com/inform...d/fixtures.htm he gives information on building your own fixtures and where to get the magnetics.
I put one together a few years ago and love it.

I think the site you have in mind is Airfield Models - massive site with a lot of good ideas, and he sells the magnet sets:

He's a little too pricey for me. I've got 15 fixtures, 15 vertical presses , 100 magnets and the metal table top for less than 100buck,s.
RE: WACO YMF
Robert,
On the full size it is the wing. The aileron push tubes are connected directly to the joystick torque tube under the seat. Check photo # 5497 in the cockpit detail photo folder on the CD. You can see the outline of the lower wing rib in the fuselage covering.
P1 – UBF NC 2091K – Starboard sidewall with rudder pedal, tow brake, heel scuff plate, elevator trim crank, wing spar attachment point etc.
P2 - QCF NC 12428 - End view of the lower wings ready for assembly. Note the aileron push tube sticking out and its position behind the rear spar.

Hi "Waco" guy's! I'm another old guy that love's J-3 Piper Cub's and Waco YMF 5 's. I have been reading this forum for a few years and it is awesome. I subscribed today. I just got my Great Planes arf Waco in yesterday at my LHS. I had bought a scratch built 72" Waco YMF 5 from a builder in one of our local clubs about 6 years ago and ended up selling it for some stupid reason. The picture of it is still on my RCU gallery (cannonball200). Now I'm in business again. I know this is just an arf, but I'm going to do some changes to it and it's a good place to start. I don't want it so fancy that I would hold back from flying it for fear of tearing it up. It does need some changes such as the tail wheel and detailing out.
Needs lots of cockpit work too. Love yellow!!!
Keep up the great forum!!!! I have read for hours on here in the last few years.
I just found out from a friend of mine that has a full scale Stearman that next to his hangar at a local airport there is a full scale Waco YMF 5 in the yellow scheme. I might even get a ride!!! WOW!!
Thanks,
Eddie

It's got WINGS!!!! Crap, this thing is BIG! Finished sheeting the upper and lower c/sections today, couldn't resist hanging the wings on to see how it looks...[8D]
Question for the day....how do you find that one blob of dried glue on your workbench?....put a nicely sanded wing on the bench, leaves a lovely dent[:@] A little water and a monocote iron removes dents very well.

RE: WACO YMF
Stickbuilder, While you are handing them out I would like to ask to be in the brotherhood. Just this year I have been getting into Wacos having admired them for a long time. I just bought a Pica 1/6 kit. Don't know when I will get to build it because I also just found a Sportsman Aviation 60 Waco arf that I am putting together. I plan on getting the new GP arf too when I can afford it. I don't know where it will lead but looks like I need to get in on this thing and start digging into this massive thread. Thanks

on one hand this new Waco from great planes is exciting. More Waco's the better.
On the other I am sorta ticked... I mean now I will be asked at the field "is that one a them Great Planes ARF's.....nope its the real deal....paid with it by years of work.
Know what I mean?

RE: WACO YMF
I would also like to join the Brotherhood. I have one kit built/passed-down Waco, unknown make (builder passed away), an abs 6 in cowl and a wingspan of about 54 in,with an old OS 120. I also have a PICA 1/5 ARF in the box that I'm getting ready to put together. A Lazy Ace and a SuperSkybolt also currently reside in my little hangar along with myriad of other aircraft. From what I have noted in this thread is there seems to two different political views of building the WACO. The real builders (I wish I had the time and talent) and the ARF assemblers. With the advent of the GP Waco, maybe we should start a new thread just for the ARFs. Just an idea. I have gone through this thread and have learned a lot about my WACO, and the people who love them. Thanks.

I guess I should have checked out the ARF/RTF threads before I opened my mouth. Seems we might have an ARF WACO thread started. I still admire all the builders on this thread, though.

RE: WACO YMF
Stickbuilder I would like to join the brotherhood as well. I am picking up my GP Waco ARF today and I have to admit I am a closet ARF assembler former scratch builder for 40 years. I currently have a scratch built 1936 Waco Custom Cabin and a modified YMF-5 Sportsman Waco. I am probably the oldest 3D Heli pilot who have attended IRSHA events and the Heli guys call pilots like me "Plankers" Well I enjoy fixed wing and Helis all at the same time. Like the rest of the Brotherhood once you get a Waco in your blood you can't take it out!. I can't wait to get my Waco in the air and I will be using a gas (DLE -30)engine for the first time ever.

Hey Stickbuilder,
I've built my share of kits in the past and still will, but I'm assembling this Waco 120 ARF because I like the plane. Don't you kit builders bash me too bad because I'm old and it might hurt my bones!!!???? Here are some pic's of the plane I just started. I'm using my own tail wheel!!!!! enough said on that. I bought new tires also. I will put flying wires and stab flying wires on it. I will do the cockpits for a nice look. I'm powering it with a DLE 20 gas... I'll bet you it will will have plenty of power to fly scale plus a lot...
Thanks for this great forum!!! I read the tail wheel section's and flying wire section's + many more. I love Waco's (YMF5) and J-3 Piper Cub's in yellow scheme's.
Thanks,

RE: WACO YMF
Hi Stickbuilder. My son and I flew in one years ago. I think it was built in 1940. I have been flying the GP Super Stearman and would like to find a good kit to build. GP is okay but I was looking for something better. Can you tell me who makes good kits? I would like to have 30cc - 100cc if they make it. Thanks

Capt. Ron.
Just order the plans and specify that you want the templates from the AMA plans service. You can build the 72" fifth scale from these plans and templates. I can vouch for the accuracy of the templates, since I spent many late nights tracing them from a virgin Pica kit. You will have to cut the parts, but that is a lot of fun in itself. Best regards,
