Hi Ronnie,

I have been looking at the JL stab configuration and thinking to incorporate that in to my CJM F-4D. Do you have pictures of the parts and the stab?
I have seen some photos in your thread, but not sure how the stab rotates inside the arresting circular half moons on the outside??? From what I can see, there is a aluminum structure with couple of bearings that sits on top of a flat board that is mounted inside the tail and then there is another aluminum structure that is screwed in to the stab and attached to the other piece via a "shaft/rotor"(??) Can you walk me through the assembly? I probably will machine my own parts unless JL provides parts for that??

Best Regards,
Mike

Mike,

If you will scroll through the pics on page #7 of this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_92..._7/key_/tm.htm you will better understand how the stab pivot mechanism is designed to work. Dan has retro-fitted the JL stab pivot assembly to a Master Fly F-4 he is currently working on. If you can't get the info you seek from these photos, let me know and I will try to explain.

Thanks Dave. If you think you might want to incorporate this feature into yours, I can trace the parts out for a pattern and send your way. Will save several hours developing the formers & brace on your part. Speak now or forever hold your piece.
Dave,

E-mail me your mailing address and I will get the patterns sent out.

I have been working on another F-4 about the same size.

Hi Ronnie (and Billy),

Been watching your thread as well and all looks great. I'm getting things squared away with my mom, the visiting nurse and physical therapist have discharged her this week. She is doing much better so I can relax a bit and get back to all the projects at hand. The last two months were tough, spending time in the workshop when you have other things on your mind, for me at least, is tough. I want Billy's Richthofen to be a work of art, and it will be, just is taking longer than I had ever thought. Billy's cool about it, I know he chomping at the bit, but it'll get done.

I've tried to attach a YouTube link of me and Billy dogfighting with Night Vapors in my living room but I can't get it to work. If you read this Billy, give it a try, I know Ronnie would enjoy it.

Dan

Mike,

That is the Jet Legend stab pivot mechanism. The clevis hardware is from Dreamworks. I see Dan is getting the info you want. It would be difficult for me to do at this time as my stab pivot is mounted and the bolts locktited in.

Hi Ronnie,

No problem. I have been measuring the area for the modification. The tail end on the CJM F-4 is a bit smaller in diameter than the JL. I will have to shrink the hardware size in order to get it fitted. I will wait for Dan to provide the info and then adapt it to fit. I may start a thread for it incase someone else wants to Mod the CJM phantom.

Best Regards,
Mike

Dave,

The patterns are made. I'll get them sent out early this week. Small adjustments may need to be made, mainly cleaning up the glue joints in the upper corners of the existing former.

Hey Dave,

Sorry I have not got the templates sent out yet. I promise I will get them out this week. Got the new formers laminated with carbon fiber which really stiffened them up. The mod is now finalized.

Dave, The strut looks great! need to get one of those. Did you need to modify your retract in any way or is ita direct replacement?
Also were did you get your cockpit?they're still not available from Global Jet.

Hi Roman:
I worked with Matrix,,, John on the gear and he is ready now to help other's, great guy, On the cockpit I lucked out and was able to have a guy builds it for me, he still owes me a Cook T-33 cockpit,,, but he has been known to disappear, which he has, I have to laugh it off, I got my money back from the dealer, now I need to paint the gear and figure out how they work, I am still at a stand still on my baby outter doors that were suppose to be installed

is the strut inflatable? I'm considering adding it to my SM F4. Does Matrix need the retract unit to do the mod?

Dave,
The strut looks great. Could you please tell me what the overall length is in the extended and collapsed position between these two points.

Hi Ronnie:
I will do that for you, I took it all the way back to the last hinge point on the front door, That is inflated if that gives you an idea I also went with the scale BVM wheels so they are shorter than the JL ones
