Default Impact of Japan Earthquake on Saito and OS?

The earthquake in Japan has hit near Chiba where Saito's are made.

I don't know right off just where OS engines are made in Japan and what impact it may have?

I almost forgot Y-S

Then there are Zenoah and Fuji gas engines

Does anyone have more information?

Looking on google, Chiba is on Tokyo Bay across the bay to the east from Tokyo. It is where the refinery is on fire in the disaster photos.

it doesn't look good, as many of the electric power generating plants are offline. So they probably won't be able to supply electricity to everyone.
Plus if there is a nuclear plant meltdown that burns through the steel containment vessel, half of Japan might wind up being contaminated.
I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I think Y-S is Inuyama which is NE of Nagoya? It should be away from any actual damage

I can't quite figure out where Enya is located. My best guess is West of Tokyo. Anyone know for sure?

Enya Metal Products is located in Iruma-gun, Saitama which is in the edge of the hills NW of Tokyo. They should have been OK from actual damage?

This a real disaster, I have a friend there right now.

Surely the supply of model engines is not the first thing to worry about...

Agreed.

I'm very concerned about their nuke plants. I hope they get them contained and under control.
The loss of 10,000 plus lives is so sad.

Agree with freakingfast. If a nuclear reactor core melts and explodes releasing lot of radioactive material then it is not only a problem of Japan, but becomes universal...

How far is Saito from the nuclear power plant that may melt down.  I am surprised they never retrofitted the power plant with containment vessels.  I thought only Russia did that.  The newest containment vessels are said to be able to contain a melt down as the material under the core has elements that will slow down the reaction.

Let me see now,10,000 estimated people DEAD,3 nuclear plants in danger of a meltdown,no clean water,no food no housing, little medical help, thousands possibly missing.Entire small villages and cities washed away.Gee i hope i there are still engines available so i can have fun with my friends. And i thought i was callous.

I don't think concern for people I've had personal dealings with to be callous! I think you might be a bit judgmental though Freddy.

Depending on height of sea level to the height of the local where the Enya Metal Products is staying.. Hope the sea has not entered into the building.. It is about 30 km (18.60 miles) from port of Tokyo to Enya Meral Products.

The situation in Japan is being discussed here as it relates to our hobby, there is no lack of compassion for the people affected by what is happening there right now and God bless them. Now jeffie if you manage to get a good supply of self powered glo plugs chuck a few my way will ya?

Exactly, not all people think of people suffering after the earthquake. Would that all people in Japan get all the help to rebuild their homes and workplaces.

I may be wrong, but I think both OS and Super Tiger engines are made in China right now. Japan is like the US and has shipped many manufacturing jobs to China, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. Most of our "Japanese" radios are made in China or elsewhere. Many Nikon cameras are made in Thailand. Their Sendai plant making the high end DSLR;s was hit and reports are that it will take weeks to get back into operation. The worldwide impact will be that many components are still made in Japan. If you are missing a critical part to build a car in Detroit, you will be at a standstill. Don;t think anyone will know the impact of this for a long time, but will not be good. And the overall bad part is the homeless people in Japan and all the suffering they will have.....

The winds from Japan come directly across the US, so nuke plants is what Im watching the closest on the news. God help the people of Japan.

Man, I am glad by post 10 someone had spoken up and stated who bloody cares about model engines at this time. Far more serious implications for the world should things get out of hand in the next while.

I have to say this, I am a member of a Canadian RC site, nobody has brought up a post as silly as this. This is why the world frowns on the intelligence of some Americans....

You deserve to be made an example of and flamed like I have!!

This is not a black and white issue. Yes we are compassionate about the people effected buy the horrendous disaster in Japan. But we are also discussing the impact on the hobby we all enjoy.

What do you think some stock trader buddy's are talking about while having some beers tonight? On one hand, they feel terrible about the suffering and pain felt by a country. But one the other hand, they are discussing the implication that this disaster is going to have on the stock market tomorrow.

It is not fair of you to pass judgment on a country as a whole because of internet posting of a couple people.

The destruction and loss of life in Japan is indeed tragic, and with two disasters on the same day they surely dont need another disaster, especially a nuclear one.

But with that being said... I'm sure glad there is another Canadian pointing their snotty finger at Americans and telling us what is wrong with us.

Down here in SOuth AFrica we are watching the unfolding disaster with tears in our eyes.
the loss of human life is only mounting and this disaster has the potential to impact on everything we own and do.

I really really hope that our arrogant governments will stop looking at economics and self enrichment and start to place concerna dn wellbeing of the people who place them in power as the first priority.

We are insignificant in comparison to nature.

I do hope though that many of the companies we buy from everyday are largely unaffected because its those jobs that will help Japan recover from this natural disaster.
