RE: Ziroli Panther
The new horizontal stab saddles were glued next to the original saddles leaving a 1/8th inch gap between the new saddles and the side of the fuse. I cut some scrap pieces of ply to fill the gap and hysoled them in place. The vertical stab was sheeted. The ABS plastictip tanks were put together. This tooka good bit of timeand was an exercise in patience. I think I created at least a half dozen new swear words. If I had to do it again, I would order the tip tanks for the PST Panther. One of the tanks has been filled and sanded, the other has not been filled yet. Currently they are sitting on the wing and will be glued in place once they and the wings have been glassed.

Hi Kirk,
Yep...the wingtanks were a P... in the A..! But after glassing them they ended up looking OK. I had mine glued to the wing spars from the start and glassed the wings and tanks at the same time, creating a very strong unity.

RE: Ziroli Panther
More progress...
I decided to secure the wings to the fuse in a different manner than the plans show. I cut out a small section of sheeting on the bottom of the wing at the root rib and drilled a hole in the root rib of the wing and the root rib of the fuse. A blind nut was added to a piece of 1/4 inch aircraft plywood and it was hysoled to the inside of the root rib on the wing. A screw goes through the rib in the fuse and screws into the blind nut, securing the wing to the fuse and acting as a rear anti rotation pin. I used one of the 1/8 inch ribs that came with the lazer cut kit to fill in the void between the fuse and the wing. This and new way of securing the wing mates the wing to the fuse with no slop or play. (1st, 2nd, & 3rdphotos).
The leading edge was glued on the wing and sanded to shape. Carbon fiber was added in the aileron and flap servo bays. The flap hinge holes are close to the bottom of the wing so stripes of carbon fiber was added over the holes to strength the area. (4th photo).
The rudders were built, shaped and fitted, and hinged (5th photo).
Hard balsa was used to make the intake lips and they were hysoled to the fuse. The right side intake lip has been sanded to shape. (6th& 7th photos).

RE: Ziroli Panther
The wheels that have been on the Panther were there just to check for size bfore I ordered wheels from BVM. I placed the order last weekand received them yesterday. The Robart retracts have a 1/4 inch axle and the BVM wheels use a 3/16th inch axle. So, I cut a piece of 1/4 brass tubeand drilled a hole through one side in order for the set screw to go through. The BVM axles fit into the brass tube and the set screw tights against it. I have a set of brakes in at my apartment in Seattle so for now I will use a spacer to hold the wheels from the strut.

I started to work on the main gear doors but ran into a snag. The off set hinges I got a couple of months ago for this project ended up being of low quality. The hole for the pivot shaft wasn't drilled straight. They came in a pack of 20.11 of them were drilled like the first photo and 9 of them were drilled like the second photo. I will have to order a different brand ofoff set hinges before continuing on the gear doors.

RE: Ziroli Panther
All of the wood structures have been glassed. It's been a cold here so I've let the epoxy resin dry for a coupe of days. Today I started adding the second coat of epoxy resin. I mix micro ballons with the second coat of resin until it is a slightly runny paste. This will fill the weave of the cloth for almost no weight.
In the meantime, components for the next project have started to arrive. In the photo you can see the size of the fan and controller next to a coke can. The fan is an Aeronaut TurboFan 8000. It produces 30 pounds of thrust and has flown a 1/6th scale JetLegend F-16, 1/6th scale F-35, and a 90 inch wingspan Venom. The controller is a Schulze 40.303 and can handle 300 amps continous and a 400 amp burst. The Neumotors 2230 1Y motor will arrive next week.

Nice. I can't wait to see how you incorporate that coke can into the build.

Hi Paul. I know what you mean. I'm going to return these Tamjet hinges to Dreamworks where I purchased them and get the BVM hinges.

Kirk,
You might want to take a look at the Yellow offset hinges. Better than the BV IMO.

Kirk,
Glad you like the plane... It is really a work of art... Each rivet was done by hand and the final build took about 5 years... It is an incredible flying plane powered by a JC P70 which is a perfect match... There are a few videos on the club page that you can enjoy watching this airplane fly and land...
Best of luck!!!
