Very Very nice build there Ivves!, you have once again convinced me to keep my C130 and continue to build and fly here now!
I really like how you made your engine cowls, Fowler flaps and landing gear mechanisms!. Just beautiful work.
If yopu don't min me asking, how much are this Turnigy motors and battery packs, plus what amp ESCs you bought for this model?

I`m glad to here you keep up the work on Your C-130. I understand that many guys building from Palmer plans give up, those plans are not the best on the market.

About my setup, i don`t know exactley how much i paid for it but i can tell you that it was not very expensive. You will find the prices on Hobby Kings website.

This setup gives me about 750w per/motor. I´ll be using Master airscrew 13/8 3 blade props. Mixed flight time 10 min.

I´ve been messing with glow and gas engines for allmost 60 years now and i must tell you that this is the best choice i ever made when i decided to go for electric.

Looks very very good Ivan, cant wait to see some video of the maiden, the B-17 looks very stable is it a Wingspan or Don Smith, if it is a Wingspan model how was the kit I want perhaps to built one also electric.

Hello boys.

Went out today in the stormy wether to taxitest my Herc. Everything seems to work as expected. I`m especily satisfied with the reversing, works great. There is no need for wheel brakes !

Very simple to do. You just add a servo that activates a switch somewhere between motor and esc. You let two of the three motorleads go via this switch.You need a switch with six poles.

Hello every body.

Here is a short video of the first testflight of my c-130. The flight went very well. Flies strait as an arrow, no trimming at all. Power of the outrunners are more than enough.

Just beautiful Ivves.....she flew like a trainer almost. I suppose high AOA on the nose gear helps with faster rotation, i have same on my model that i will change it to being straight n level on the ground since actual aircraft sits level on the ground.

Did you used flaps for the takeoff on ur maiden flight or due to high AOA she took off w/out flaps, yup looks like you got more then enough power there which in my books is great to have!...

My S Connie is 1/14th scale fully scratch build model, it's getting near completion stages. I layed up last top light layer of fiberglass cloth on the fuselage to seal all the filler work. Once this is all done in next week hopefully then fuselage is all most ready for primer and painting!.

Engines, Engines, Engines... I have a PCK C-130 about to arrive soon. There is a lot of discussion about engines for this 1/12 scale monster. In 2007-2009 time frame, the MVVS engines were probably the ones to get. Then the RCV90cd and rcv90sp were suggested. There are some other options, one being OS91's rear exhaust. They are advertised as Helo engines but probably because of the rear exhaust being easier to package. There was mention of Saito FG20's but at the current price, bank loan time. Any suggestions?

I am not too sure that anyone is still monitoring this thread but I will give it another try.

I settled on RCV 90SP engines. They seem to be a good choice based on some modelers past experiences.

This model is going to be very expensive. Not so much from the cost of building it but the cost of transportation. In my zeal to build this monster, I completely ignored the size. Yep, the wings come off. That helps. But it is 8 feet long!!!!!!!! Has any of the builders thought about splitting the fuselage as Palmer did with the Shrike. I think I will be designing this into the build before I get started. The aircraft had plenty of access hatches and a few hatches around the fuselage joint would probably not be out of scale.

I still follow this thread, but my herc is still not finished. I have the fuselage mostly completed, but in one piece. Yes, you will need a school bus to transport.
I purchased the RCv 90SP for mine, but will go with something different now when I get back to my build. The RCV90SP are a very tight fit inside the nacelles ( I purchased the fiberglass ones). A bit of modifications need to be made and I am concerned about the engine cooling. I also see from others that the SP engines need to be run-in with alot of care and work in order not to damage them. I did read all the early feeds several times, and this greatly helps in the construction of this monster. I keep printed pages on hand to refer back to as I go along. I will keep following this forum to see haow you are doing.

I have recently traded my C130 with 3rd scale RTF 52CC Biplane....i wasn't doing anything with it for last 2 years, so better it went to another builder who is carpenter in trade n i'm sure complete building her....
If i had kept it, i would have powered it with electric brushless motors, Esc's n lipos batteries......glow is not a safest way to go with these models in my opinion...

There has been lots of discussions on engines. Some of the modelers are powering up with electrics. For gas engines, there are some problems that need to be worked out. The cowls are not very big. Fitting engines is a major problem. Palmer called for MVVS .49's which are about 360 grams each and can be set up for rear exhaust to keep everything within the cowling. The .49 is no longer available but they have a .61. It will fit but is much heavier coming in about 520 grams. It is my understanding that the exhaust port can be rotated to the rear of the engine before the first break in run. Enya has a rear exhaust .61 engine that is in production but is not available as of yet. Maybe later in the year. This engine is light and produces 1.7hp according to their specs. It's weight is close to the MVVS .49 so is worth taking a look at. I am not sure that 4 strokers will fit properly without much alteration. Another alternative is the RCV 90SP. They are about 20mm longer than the MVVS .49 so some mods to the motor mount position must be made if you wish to maintain the scale propeller positions. The nice thing about the RCV's is that they are geared down 2:1 and can swing 12-13 inch 4 blade props for realism and getting the exhaust to exit at the rear of the cowling is very doable. The only drawback is they are a whopping 735 grams. Really heavy.

Most of the C-130's were built years ago when the MVVS .49 was available. Exhaustive searches on the net does not reveal much information on engine choices. One C-130 has mufflers coming out of the side of the cowling. This airplane is big enough that sticking to scale will yield the best looking A/C. If you happen to come up with some other alternatives, please post.

I have read through this forum regarding the different engine choices and, as you say
most of these models were built quite a while ago. My original plan back when I first
bought the plans (around 2005 I think) was to go with the OS .91four stroke. My main
reason for the interest in the gas engines is running cost. I am not too concerned if I
have to modify the cowls or if the engines stick out a bit.

Any info on different gas engines would be helpful. All my planes currently use IS or ASP
glow engines. I have zero interest in electrics!
