OS is my number two choice but you left off YS, my number one pick in glow. So, I put down OS.

My current favorite is not on the list (Webra) but I do like OS engines. I really like cheap and good running engines.

I'm new to planes but not to glow engines. I like the reliable OS engines.

There are so many good ones:

4-strokes: Saito dominates my fleet, but OS makes a good one. Most bang for the buck is Magnum when on sale - bought 5 of the 52s for $79.99 each last year, they run like Timex watches! YS produces the most power, but every loyal YS owner brags on the service company - which they use much more often than owners of the less powerful engines do, on average.

2-strokes: OS has a wide variety of user-friendly engines at premium prices. Thunder Tiger .46 Pro is a great engine for a good price. Magnums seem to vary a bit in quality control, but some run great and the rest get fixed under warranty. Webra and Rossi are very good, but availability is not.

Gassers: These are like computers were 10 years ago - buy one today, tomorrow there will be one that's better and cheaper. The established brands are getting killed by the Chinese. Ask the thousands of DLE owners....

G'day

#1 Laser (England), #2 Saito (Japan), #3 Jett (USA), #4 OS (Japan), #5 Super Tigre (China), #6 Sanye - ASP/Magnum (China) and so on.

Why? Laser are extremely well made and easy to use and run and sound wonderful, Saito is a good motor for a good price and easy to use, light and powerful for size and weight, Jett motors are well made and go like a blur but are expensive, OS are well made but are now getting rather expensive, Super Tigre are great value and go well and Sanye engines are cheap and good value but a bit rough round the edges though getting better all the time.

Norvel, 'cause I can mess with them, make them diesels, overbore and stroke 'em and they're unique. The cylinder is hard anodized and the piston is nickel plated.

You left out all of my favorites: Enya, Fox, Cox & Norvel. Pretty worthless poll since so many of us prefer engines not on the list.

I bet many who voted for OS never tried another brand. I like OS of course, but I have other brands, Norvel, SuperTigre, Fox, Irvine, Thunder Tiger, and Magnum. I can't see it as a black and white thing, it is a continuum (price vs. performance). I can't justify paying for OS engines on all my applications, however good they are. Haven't tried SAITO, YS, or ENYA, or others yet. What I would like to work towards is low/no nitro on my existing glow engines. If can't be done on certain brands, I may have to eventually give them up.

Enya fall out of favor?
I've only seen one Enya engine since I started the hobby (around 10 years) and it happens to be in my junk room. It is a .15 that was given to me and I'll probably never use it because I can't see well enough to fly most planes that it would fit. I have heard that they are good but they are not popular in Greenville Tx.

I bet many who voted for OS never tried another brand.
Probably true in some cases. My brother and I have ASP, Magnum, OS, Saito, Thunder Tiger. I like all of them but my favorite is OS.

I may be wrong, but I suspect that the OP is debating between the brands that he listed to help him decide which engine to get out of only the 4 brands he listed. I don't think this is intended as a survey of all available brands? Evolution/Saito from Horizon Hobby and OS/SuperTigre from Tower Hobbies as his selection source. Probably why he selected these brands in the survey?

Enya fall out of favor?
I've got an Enya 120R, it's a fantastic, strong engine. Very dependable. Tuned it nearly 15 years ago and haven't touched it since, year in year out runs great, very powerful.

I agree regarding the sound of Laser engines - reminiscent of the whirrrr of fine machinery. Evidently the engine timing for Lasers is set for low nitro, maybe this is one of the reasons they sound different.

My favorite is Saito followed by OS, but I bought a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro last summer and I've been really impressed with it.
