I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to do it yet but I have some ideas. I'm going to try using balsa and avoid having to use filler material like bondo.

Just for the heck of it I hung the G-62 on, and was pleasantly surprised that it balanced one inch forward of the lower wing's leading edge. It looks like I won't have to add a lot of weight up front.

Maybe none. The leading edge of the top wing is actually forward of the rear edge of the cowl. Shortest nosed airplane I ever built. The front of the firewall on the 1/4 with a Q42 is 2 1/16" back from the front of F1. Thats with a Bennett cup mount and a wind up starter.

On a Fokker D-7, even though it seems to have a long nose, there's not really that much nose forward of the upper wing LE. I was shocked when I had to add about 2 lb.s of lead to the nose of my 1/4 scale one!

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
The last time I did a wing fillet this complex it was a Ziroli SBD Dauntless.[:-] I think I have it worked out though.
First, I cut strips of 1/32" ply and taped them to the tops of the wing stubs to make a firm base for the fillet. Partial ribs were tack glued to the insides of the wing stubs. Then I made a curved piece from 1/4 balsa that goes from the fuselage to the trailing edge of the wing stub. It took a few tries making the curved piece at the trailing edge before I made one I liked. Another curved piece, from 1/8 balsa, was glued to the back of the first one, but it goes to the end of the wing stub.
The soft balsa base that is glued to the fuselage also had a bevel sanded on the edge to follow the curve of the fillet.

When model building becomes this complex, I feel compelled to ask how it was done on the original. I bet they didn't work that hard in the Siemen's-Schuckert factory back in 1918. But then sometimes there's a problem with doing it the original way on the model. Sometimes.
Your work looks GREAT however...as always. You are a skilled woodworker for sure.

I made another curved piece that goes from the corner of the wing stub to the rear end of the fillet base. Again, this took a few tries to get a piece that I was happy with. This piece was made from 1/8" balsa and has a pretty severe curve to it. It will act as a base for the upper and lower sheeting to be glued to.
Small "mini" formers werealso added along the top of the wing stub for the sheeting to glue to.

That my friend is exactly what I will be doing when I get there. looks like a well thought out process you came up with and as you said without having to remove it should be easier. Thanks for the tutorial. I'm off to the depot for a drill a tube and some Poly C for the seaplane project. I'm going to give in and try your method of glassing, only instead of glass I use Habouti silk, finer weave, easier to cut and handle.

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
I applied all the sheeting to the fillet. It took a lot of trial and error fitting, but I finally got it done. At the front I had no choice but to use small balsa blocks that will be shaped and sanded. Fortunately, I had some soft balsa on hand.

I'm not sure what you said, but here's a few from different angles.
I shaped the fronts of the fairing and sanded everything, then put a coat of Polycrylic on. I consider the fairings done and I'm having a beer!

That sir was outstanding, cool looking fillets and neat the way the wing drops out from under it. Looks like a deal, hey it is almost 5:00 there. I may have a beer in your honor! I'm busy drying a whole bunch of stuff right now.

M. Justis did a superb job on these parts![sm=thumbup.gif] The version I'm doing will only have about 1/4 of the cowling cut away at the bottom, so I won't have to butcher that nice work too much.

I wish I had a metal cowl laying about, and the spinner as well. I will have to call Jaime and see if the quoted price for the 1/4 cowl includes a spinner. If so it's not too outrageous, just outrageous.

If you can't get a spinner, I can do those pretty easily as well. I did the spinner for my own 1/4 scale Dv. I didn't do the cowlings for this beast though. I think they were done by a professional.

Good to see you @ Toledo Jim.
Did you tell Jeff yet about the videos he is going to make for us? [X(]
Is it going to be harder now to go back to the Gotha with your newly installed metal parts? LOL
