RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
`I'm worried now that 20 degrees isn't enough. That is the limit. I don't want to have to have to cut more angle into the rudder for more deflection.
Thanks for the info.
Arch 740-695-2021 now. If you can.

RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
RC11,
I've put together 2 of these planes and they all had around 20 to 25 degrees of throw in the rubber. The last one I did for Chris I was able to get about 30 degrees for it. This plane does not require a lot of rudder for knife edge, stall turns or snaps and you will love the way they fly.

Hey houston, that plane sure is UGLEEE!
You'd better not fly it. Instead send it to me, I'll take one for the team on this. JK!
Looks AMAZING with that yellow/green scheme. Love the black pinstripe! Is that overlaid or put in between the trim colours (i.e. overlapped on one side)?

Renegade,
The black pinstripe is Sig 1/8 black pinstripe tape. Our good friend Ron Van Putte had a supply of the stuff; I think we've depleted his stock. It's sticky enough to lay down but ultraviolet sets it. We've used clear fingernail polish or clear butyrate to seal the ends so they will hopefully stay down. With use though it does come off, especially if fuel residue is left on the surfaces between flights.

RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
Well the day finally came and I was able to test fly my new Black Magic VF3 for the first time. This is by far is the best flying Black Magic I have yet to fly. This Particular plane was one of the last that was built by Mike Hester. My dad Larry Odom finished the plane with Single Stage PPG Concept and the wings were finished with a combination of Ultracote and Monokote. For weight reasons we decided not to clear the fuse after paint and chose to sand and buff to get the final shine. The final RTF dry weight is 10Lbs 5.5oz, which makes it the lightest BM we have had to date. We also put Foam in the cowling for cooling and Noise purposes. Plane is very quiet on the ground and the cylinder head is cool to the touch within 10 minutes of shutting the engine down.
I just wanted to Say thanks to My dad for finishing the plane for me and putting in all the hard man hours for me. THANK YOU DAD!!!!
Mike Hester. What can I say man? Words cant describe how much you have helped me. from day one of my pattern career you have been there for my dad and I. THANK YOU!!!!!!
Hope everyone likes the looks of the plane. ( credit for scheme goes to my dad )
Still needs decals. loll

Arch/Pete:
Could either of you please contact the person that has the molds and either have him send me a PM or make a post on this thread regarding his plans for the VF3 (is he/she going to produce the kits/ the glass parts/no plans to offer the kits, etc.)? I am starting two VF3's and I am in need of one canopy, one cowling and one chin cowl.
Thanks,
Ed

RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
I have looked and looked. I could swear Mike posted a simple file of the fuse outline for people to sketch paint schemes on. Does anybody know what I'm talking about or am I losing it?
