RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Thanks Stone Flyer! I did install the switch after thinking some more. Just to make sure no power was running into anything. But... I have yet another dumb question! When the DLE throttle is closed the arm is pulled back towards the firewall correct? Thought I checked but wantto make sure! Engine is already lock tighted! Again... Thanks!

It depends on which side you carb is rotated. Look down the throat of the carb through the hole in the firewall and see if the butterfly is closed and make sure you are not looking at the choke.

What servo arms are most people using on 30cc Edge. I was thinking of using the plastic heavy duty arms that come with the Hitec digitals. I always use metal arms on 50 cc and above but I am thinking the plastic would be fine for this airplane.
Any thoughts?

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Hello Everyone,
I thought I would give everyone an update on my plane since it was one of the first one flying. It now has around 25 flights and the plane has been solid. I had one problem today with the right aileron servo (DS090 HD Power digital servos) The servo began to flutter on the ground. It only occurs when its in the neutral position. I think the pott is going bad, so out it went. I took the rudder servo and replaced the right aileron. I then put a heavier duty servo back in the rudder position. I hope to use this plane or my GW 50cc SBACH for the updcoming IMAC event.
I get to love this plane more everytime I fly it. It makes me want to buy its big brother 50cc Edge. The little DLE 30 is just starting to break in and the power is getting better everyday. Its a must since I live at 6000 feet above sea level. I put the plane on a digital scale and it weights 10.8 pounds without fuel. I have been experimenting with mutiple props, but the Xoar 19X7 seems to hit the sweet spot for me. I have tried a 19X8 but I do not like it as much. I have been itching to to try a VESS 19A or 19B, but they seem to be a bit pricey.
The plane was checked on a clubs decibel meter the other day and it rated at 94 DB's.
Spring is here so lets get flying.

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Sounds great! I still need to try the 19x7, as I tried a 20x6 and did not like it at all..
I don't know how many flights I have on mine now to be honest. I discovered that it was a bit too tail heavy for me, so I changed the battery location. After that, it is pretty much where I like it. I have been enjoying flying the plane recently much more, as I am not freezing when trying to fly it. I also finally leaned the motor to where I like it, and it's producing excellent power even compared to what it was doing. I have to admit that this plane has taken a little beating as far as hangar rash is concerned. It's like, if there is a wall, the rudder and wings are magnetically attracted to it.. But I like it the more I get used to it.

I have had a real good time flying this plane. I have changed the reciever battery to a 2100 mah battery to get a few more flights. I placed the bigger battery on the top of the fuel tank. I balanced the plane is balanced slightly nose heavy and its perfect for my taste. The DLE motor has been awesome and has enough power. I have been using a XOaR 19X7 which gives the plane great performance. My situation may differ from others because I live at 6000 feet. I can tell you one this plane is durable and the gear is tough. I hope everyone is enjoyed this plane as much as I ha ve

Tripower-
I noticed you live in Tarpon. I live in Tampa. Love to come see the edge fly. Also would like to pick your brain as well. I just ordered the aeroworks extra 30cc build. My email is [email protected]

Thats funny about your battery placement, because it's exactly where mine ended up being also. Mine is also a tid bit nose heavy and just like yourself, it is perfect for my flying style also. And couldn't agree with you more, that motor is great! My findings on the plane and gear are exactly the same as yours, with it being tough as nails! It's a speedy little bugger also, but it probably is the prop I am still running(18X10), but I am going to get a 19X7 if it kills me.. With that propellor, it is up to mach speed in like 4 seconds... The vertical is still good, but just a bit too fast for my flying skills.. Even with the throttle lowered.. But then, I also thought about setting a throttle curve to soften the lower end a little bit, so the power doesn't come on as strong so fast. But, I will have to see.
I just purchased a lipo this morning for it, so my underpowered battery may be religated to ignition purposes.. Not sure. I have to weigh the batteries against one another to see how much of a difference there is in the weight.
But, yes, completely with you.. I love that plane...

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Hello Everyone,
I just ordered 30cc edge 540, I'm an average pilot that wants to learn a little 3D. The high end servos they call for Hitec 7985s are about $94.00 that I will buy them if I need to.
I already have some Futaba digital S9452s at $84.00 each that are a little faster but a little less torque, @ 6v speed is 0.11 sec/60 and torque is 127.8 oz-in
Can I use the Futaba's? I don't want the planes abilities to suffer!
Thanks

I ran 133 oz servos and they worked great. Make sure you use metal gear servos. If you are interested I have been using savox 1258TG coreless digital units with 166 oz at 6 volts. They retail around 60 each. Great servos. I have them in my AW plane and my 50 cc planes. If you are interested PM me. I have few extras

Bandit,
If I recall you were quite active in the Giant Super Sportster blog. You will like this plane because it will not require all the extra stuff that the sportster required. Its an assembly definately not a build. The plane is a pleasure to fly and will do anything you require. The DLE30 is the motor and after the motor is broken in, a Xoar 19X8 is the prop. I used a 19X7 from the beginning and just switched to a 19X8 this week. Its been in the 90's here and the air is thin and I am at 6000 feet.
Enjoy

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Hey Brian,
Yeah I was active in the Super Sportster thread, though never built one. My flying buddy was building one though and why I got involved in it. I agree this is an assembly rather than a build, as have all Aeroworks planes I own/owned. I have their 60-90 Extra 260 which I will convert over to gas once a DLE 20 is delivered, and also owned their 90-120 Yak a few years ago, but sold when I got out of the hobby for awhile. Much of my decision to buy the Edge was in part from reading this thread and from my experiences with Aeroworks' quality.
Assembly unsurprisingly has gone super smooth. This evening I got the aileron servos in and linked up as well as the horizontal stabs installed and servos installed w/linkage. Tomorrow I plan to tackle mounting the engine, install the rudder and main landing gear if all goes well. I have a DLE 30 to go in the Edge with a JTech wrap around Pitts muffler, Aeroworks' carbon fiber spinner and will swing a 19X8 Xoar. I have everything here to complete the build so barring any unforeseen misfortune, I'll maiden it on July 4th weekend. =)
Stay Tuned....

I think you will find the 19x8 xoar too much for the plane while breaking it in. You will not be able to get it to idle down low enough to keep the plane from moving. That is why I suggest a 19 X 7 xoar for break in. The plane is light around 10 . 5 pounds. If you need a that prop call valley view rc. They have them and they will predrill them if you like.

Hey Brian,
Yeah I saw where ya'll were using a 19X7 for break-in and *was* going to do the same, however Valley-View was and still is out of stock. Hopefully it won't be too much of a struggle for me during break in. I fly from a grass field so hopefully that will help, time will tell...

Hi guys, I need a bit of help. As you can see from my photos, I had a landing gear mishap with some tall weeds. Can someone take a few pics of the inner structure for the landing gear section so I can get my beauty back together. I would be most appreciative, as it is nothing major to do, but I simply cannot figure out what goes where with the pieces.. LOL
Thanks a million,
Damon
