Alien,
Not a problem mate.
Bob (My Photographer) and I are always stoked to see our pics being used to promote global interest in RC Surfing.

Actually Alien, your English isfine, that's just my warped sense of humor tempting me to write stupid comments like that.

Cananzi,
Isuspect all RC surfers have the ESC lean and I have a spoon sinker stuck on the sidewall to counterbalance that.
I think it is a size 2 (50g).
There is still a slight difference in rail to rail balance, I tried using a second size 1 sinker (28g) as well.
Although that seemed to get the board sitting more evenlyI took it back out again 'cause it didn't seem to perform as well.

I also think that the prop twists the hull in the water a little and that helps compensate for the lean a bit so when I balanced it with lead it seemed to overcompensate under power.
Does that make any sense?

Try a few experiments with various weights and let me know what you find.
I just use some double sided tape to stick the weight behind the pushrod tube.
Easy to change or take out again.

I have thought about ditching the counterbalance altogether but the Dude can tend to get blown on his face in a STRONG offshore without it.
Seems to handle the wind a lot better with it in butI am thinking that my board weighs a lot more now with the 100g on the bottom and the 50g on the side and although it definately seems to handle soup a lot better when doing floaters and rebounding off sections and always self rights well but it does not jump as high as it used to with the 31mm prop..
But if you hit the lip just as it throws out it does help THROW the Dude up high.

Also, the recent change from 31mm plastic to 32mm brass props has added quite a bit more speed which is also helping to get some bigger jumps again now.
With such a heavy board and 32mm prop I have plenty of speed but I have a feeling runtimesseem a bit shorter lately.
Just have not got around to timing it.

Actually, I have not been getting the Dude out in the water much at all lately.

To do that sort of freaky hardcore airshow that Seb is famous for I really think you need 3S power.

yeah 3s is crazy amount of power compared to 2s. it ment to be 33% more but it honestly doesnt feel like it ,feels like atleast 50% :-)

I ran my Dude today at Doheny. It was windy and choppy but the Dude hung on and did great. I installed the parts from Surf Curls and everything worked perfect (thanks John). The inside stayed nice and dry and had plenty of speed and power.
It has the SC3-SURF ESC in it. How is that with LiPo's? The RC Surfer site says its compatable but.....Anybody have any experience with it?
I used a 4500 NI-MH pack today and it was kind of short.
Thanks,
Justin

Cool Justin,

I was hoping you got the parts installed for the weekend.

Most ESC need programmed to run Li-po. Maybe ED can Email you the
Instructions If They Didnt come with the board.

Unfortunately, I dont have info on that ESC ...

The 4500 Should give some good run time, is it taking a full charge
up to 4500 mah ?

It was the first time the battery had been used. I think it needs a little breaking in (cycling).
I'm still trying to clear an obstruction out of the original brass motor cooling coil. I tried soaking it in Salt-Away, boiling it and now freezing it. I tried to snake a wire through but its hard to get it to go far in at all. The aluminum one you sent works fine but....I like to fix things (try anyway).
I'm working on a old Radio Shack Surf Monster. It is way under powered, over weight and sits very low in the water. I was fixing it for a friend who will probably just give it to his nephews to play with in the pool. I replaced the steering servo with a used HS-81 and put in a cheap water proof ESC and a simple AM radio. It uses a 380 motor that I don't want to replace because of cost. It has no water cooling and I don't think its worth much more time and effort. But it looks cool!

The Radio Shack Model Is Too Much R & D To Get It To Run.

For Your 4500 Ni-mh. Use a slow setting to charge say 1.5 amp, and a Peak Delta at 8.
If you dont have a digital / programmable charger we use ones like this:
And Ebay Has Used Ones For Less $$$

Ok, For The Record. It's "Curly" LOL

Best Bet Is To Call / Email Ed For The ESC Scoop.
http://www.rcsurfrider.com/contact/

Thats A Brushed System, And He Can Get The Program Info
You Would Need To Set It To Lipo.

Most On This Blog Are Using Brushless ...

I Had Some Of Those Brushed ESC Years Ago, And I Think They From Castle Creations

Well sooner is here already. After surfing head high Church this morning (me on a board). I was kicking back showing off my RC surfer at San Onofre. It started to act kind of weird so I brought it in. Some water had gotten in, so I dumped it out, checked it out it, everything seamed alright. I put a new battery in and just got out into the 2'-3' surf. And the thing died. I think the ESC got soaked.
Curly, I would like to get a brushless system. Can ya help a guy out?
Thanks,
Justin
PS every time I use this thing at least 3-4 people want to know all about it.

curly has great setups that will get you up n running or you can try hobbyking. cant go wrong with either ,both will do the job nicely.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6670motor (you will need a 36mm x 40mm cooling jacket)

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7360Value for money esc. i just brought two of them and they are pretty dam good.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14669these lipos will fit in without any battery tray mods but it would be better if you sanded or use a mini hobby rotary tool to grind out the battery tray for a lil bit extra room.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10608great cheap lil transmitter and reciever if you were looking to upgrade

hope that helps

How Did Water Get In ?

That Has To Be Solved Before Putting Anything New In ...

For The Brushless Set up, You Wont Need A TX / Rx / Servo or new Battery.
The Ones You Have Will Work Fine.

The ESC Cananzi Suggested Should Be Great. Jimi Thinks so Already As Swell.
Make Sure Any Motor You Get Has a 1/8 Shaft To Fit The Coupling Set Up You Already Have
Which is 1/8 Motor Shaft to 4mm Straight Prop Shaft ( Kyosho )
Stay under 3200 KV for a 60 amp esc, with a 540 can size.

Not Sure What Cooling System They Are Using With This Set Up ?
But The Coil Aluminum Is For Brushed, And The Brushless
Can Handle a Cylinder that will cool the Whole Motor.

if you buy hobbyking make sure you leave page open on product for a while then the supposed one time only deal will come up, this is the same price as offered when you are a member and signed in. and the one time thing will come up again dont worry.

Thanks Guys all great info. I have purchased from Hobby King before, but thanks for the tip on waiting for the discount I forgot about that.
I do just need the motor a water jacket for the motor and water cooled ESC.
Curly, I did not use the new seal you sent me, and the surf was pretty big. I think the deck was not screwed in real tight as well, that's how the water got in. I put the Rx in a balloon and tied it off with a wire tie but failed to seal it with silicone. It was a little wet I found out later.
Thanks for the help guys,
Justin

Ya, We All Have To Crank The Deck Screws As Tight As We Can Get Them.

Someone On This Blog Wrote About Adding Some Grease to The Seal
And It Forms A Water Tight Vacuum Seal. So Much That It Is A Task
To Remove The Deck. That Can Be A Bit Messy, And Sand Will Stick
But A Few Guys I Know Tried It, And Said It Worked Well...

Let The RX Dry A Bit, It Should Be Alive Again.

I just thought of a few questions,
What is the best thing to put into the prop shaft tube to keep water out and how often do you need to reapply it?
Do you guys use Salt-Away?
What 2 cell water cooled brushless system are you using?
What is the handling difference between the single fin rudder and the "V" fin rudder?

hey
I got the Board Shark's arms and rutter working today but the motor is fried. The mechanics of the Board Shark is much diffrent than the RC Surfer, I have the idea of stripping out the gut and starting fresh. Maybe cement epoxying the "dude" stationary similar to the RC Surfer. Although the idea of the body mechanics is pretty neat-o.

Anyway I managed two catch some waves board shark style!! no video just pics!!

good news is that snow is melting!
